Yeah, firearm training is definitely something you lose if you don't keep up with it. I used to do local pistol competitions about 10-15 years ago. I was at the range all the time. Never placed, but was always solid middle to upper ground. The ranges around me got really shitty several years ago and I haven't had a good place to go practice, so I know I'm really rusty. The last time I went to a range some dumbass was waving a loaded revolver around with his finger on the trigger like it was nothing. Several of us hit the deck and someone had to grab the gun from the dude before he accidentally shot someone. I haven't been back to the range since then.I guess it depends on if they are actually professionally trained and keep their skills in shape. It is a perishable skill for sure. I shoot and train with a lot of cops and military guys. "Most" of those guys are serious. I am also for some odd reason friends with a lot of cops. Most of whom frankly wouldn't stand a chance with me unless they had a few buddies and the element of surprise.
Within the last year or so a new indoor range opened up and during the week that doesn't seem to be too busy during the work week. My wife has recently expressed an interest in learning how to shoot. It might be about time her and I take a day off work to check it out. I can easily start her off on my .22 Browning Buckmark where she wouldn't feel intimidated by any recoil.
