Crazy To Trade?

Am I crazy to be contemplating putting my Mark V rig up for AxeFXII rig trade?

The MkV rig consists of the head, RJM MAG, Two Notes Torpedo Live & Mesa Recto Vertical 2x12. I can't see myself ever playing bars/clubs with it, as I want to keep such a great amp in the best possible condition, and it seems to me the Axe would see more use in my home studio environment. The MkV rig is absolutely beastly and not really being unleashed here. Every time I play through it I have a huge smile on my face and it feels soooo good, but usually by the time I get home and have a chance to plug in I find myself just going to a rig box (Eleven Rack, POD, computer sim/DAW). I've dreamed of this rig in my younger years and now that I have it, I'm astonished with the consideration - all things considered. Do I need talked down or is the jump worth the landing?

Alot of bands use the Axe live, some well known ones steve vai (mostly as a pre-amp), chris broderick, Tosin abasi, and not too mention a whole crapload of progressive/djent bands using the axe fx for live use. And obviously course a midi controller to control it is reccomended.

I would say crazy but

"Every time I play through it I have a huge smile on my face and it feels soooo good"

Sounds like your happy...However you can always buy another one someday?

I would love an axe or kemper but also love my tubes. Touch choice.

Some things seem crazy at first glance...BUT....only you really know which is best for you. If you have something you don't really need and you can get something you really can use that will indeed get a lot of use...then why not?

I had a kemper and went back to a tube amp and use a Live for direct. I'm far happier. However, I wouldn't dismiss getting another one at some point. I'd have to get some better results running through my cab then my previous trials. I wasn't happy at all. Now, everything works and sounds fabulous!

Never understood why people do this. Then you get the axe and dial in a Mark sound. Dafuq is that about?

Yep. What Reza said. Or go TwoNotes.

I had the Axe-II....twice. And may very well get it again, or whatever their next king product will be. But overall? Just can't beat the gtr > cable > amp sound and feel. And believe me, I tried.

Axe is an awesome poduct - probably best thing out there since sliced bread for guitarists. And it'd be my choice of what to take if I spent a stint in jail and had to pick something to make music with.

Amps were meant to be played/used. I don't get why you would be afraid to gig with it...there's nothing rare or collectible about a Mark V...it's a "utility" amp. Unless you ordered some custom hardwood cab or similar, play the hell out of it...that's what it's for!

And don't do the trade unless it's financially weighted in your favor.

Yeah thats true. Marks arent an ultra rare hard to find amp.

I'd just by live-in cases for your Mark V rig and gig with it, rather than trade away something you love. Just find ways to use it more (like with road cases if you're afraid of dinging it up).

Road traveled amps also look so cool. They've got great mojo. I'm not saying I'd be down with "relic'd" amps and cabs (just watch, this will be the next marketing thing to come down the pipe...I wouldn't be surprised), but amps are tools. Most certainly. And a Mark V ain't limited edition or collectors grade. It's a very common amp.

I don't know … I just did my first gig with an RP1000 and Alto powered wedge and i LOVED it No, it's not my Quick Rod but it was WAY easier to move in and out of the gig. I was set up in 10 minute. Just remember, only you know what your needs are. The RP sounded much better than I anticipated live.

Keep in mind, this is for a band I am in doing corporate gigs and many times the venue wants us to not have "big loud amps" on stage.

It's already happened...I've seen relic'd tweed Fenders.

If you own an amp with a Mojo head cab (like my Marsha), just leave it in your equipment van/trailer on a hot summer day...instant shrunken tolex relic job. Ask me how I know

This.

No idea why anyone would own something they were scared to use for it's intended purpose.

i have an axe-fx II that is almost new and i would trade you in a heartbeat. what does that tell you?

That shouldn't tell anyone anything other than your own opinion.

I have both, a real amp AND the Axe-2. Yes, I took the Axe plunge. To me the Axe is an extremely versatile tool. I sold off my entire pedalboard because the Axe works well with the 4cm and having 1 Cat5 cable going to the MFC pedalboard is TITS.

I can use the Axe straight in a DAW with monitors, I can use it as a processor with my amp for ALL effects in the loop or the full 4cm. I can use the Axe in to return of an amp, or use the Axe with a poweramp.

I say keep your amp but sell some stuff and save for an Axe-2. You'll never need to bother with pedals ever again.

This is the only answer. If you really dig your Mark then keep it and add to your collection with the Axe. Very versatile tool.

Ive been wanting to move to an Axe II, I dont think this is that crazy.

If you do try the AFX, I strongly recommend holding on to your MKV for a bit. I couldn't get rid of the AFXII fast enough and had already sold my amp (VH4 at the time) and lost my shirt buying another after dumping the AFX.
