$20 pick? I have a bridge to sell you. Gibbons used to use coins...that weren't worth that much.

They are overpriced for sure, but they're also the best feeling/sounding picks I've ever used by a mile. It's unfortunate, but true.

That'll happen.

I've taken to scoring the front and back of the Ultex Sharps with a razor blade and it improved the already outstanding grip 10 fold.

I know, not exactly a new trick, but there it is.

They goddamn well better be for 20 bucks!

I don't doubt whether the $20 picks are better or not. They probably are. I've tried using a penny before and realized that what you use does in fact drastically affect the sound, so it's not that farfetched. I just know that my dog can lift his leg to fart and somehow I'll lose my pick. I'm far too clumsy to spend that much on a pick.

I agree. Random Hero actually did a shootout between a black, red and ultex Jazz III. They all sounded slightly different, so there's no doubt that picks change your tone. However, there's no way I could justify $20 a pick given how often I lose them.

I recall that thread  about the different color Jazz III's. If I hadn't heard the clips myself I would have thought it was cork sniffing at its best.

I started using the ultex a few months ago and love them, they hold up really well for me

and they are made to order, how boutique is that? I thought the free V-Pick I was given at NAMM was nothing special, why is this $20.00 one so good?

Because it's 20 bucks, that's why it's better.

I have tried the V Picks, they have a cluck to them that sounds strange. My main thing with the $20 picks or as I like to look at them as the Red Bear Jazz III is not just the tone is good, but they actually assist my picking to be much more articulate from the dunlop Jazz III. They feel so much smoother and I can personally tell a big difference when trying to do 16th note triplets or groups of 4 when the tempo gets in the 120 and above range. I have only bought a few, takes 4-5 weeks to get them after you place your order. The people are nice at the company and the picks are amazing. However they are expensive which is why I have only bought a few and still use the Dunlop Jazz III's most of the time. But no matter what there is a difference, is it worth it and is the difference better for anybody else, this I cannot answer.

I am going to try the Ultex Jazz III's, I have not tried any of the Ultex ones. I was not trying to be a dick on the tempo comment. Sorry if I came across like one, and even if you only play at a tempo of 40 and do strictly blues bends and pentatonic licks the Red Bears feel better. :D

However AA stated he got 72 for $31 of the Ultex and I am anxious to try them out as well. The Standard Dunlop Jazz III's work fine overall for me, just stating in this post the Red Bear do feel better to me and I can tell a difference. I think Andy Wood has commented on these before as well, I could be mistaken.

Sorry again DonnieB if I came across in a negative way with the tempo comment, not trying to be a jerk at all.

It's 144 for $31.
There all gone now from Amazon, there was only 2 bags of 72 the guy was selling for $15.50 per bag with free shipping.
So that is less than $ .22 per pick, so to me it is well worth it even if they do wear out.
There is a guy selling them for $22 a bag with free shipping, so that's only like $ .30 a pick.
It's a no brainer
