Pretty good vid in that article. I haven't looked at LP's in a while, so good to know what to look out for!

The hardest realization is when you play a Chibson and it plays and sounds better than a real Gibson...
have they really went that far downhill? I haven't bought a real Gibson in about 12 years.

In all reality no. I am sure Gibsons QC still is heads and tails beyond the risk you take ordering a Chibson. Awhile back, 12-13 years ago my buddy ordered a Chibson. Pickups were trash, wiring was rats nest. Replaced the nut and it was a totally amazing LP. Stayed in tune, ripped. I truly feel this can happen with any guitars. I do find it strange that, in my opinion, they can clone LP's in feel...but I have played very few that feel like a real Fender.

Never found either to be true. Epiphone knockoffs that say Gibson on them is what I always see.

You have to know your shit before you buy anything now days. Not cool with that but someone who has little funds a chibson might be the answer.

One famous fake Gibson I know of is James Hetfield's White V . I believe its on the 1st 3 albums, pretty cool

I've got a $230 Chinese knockoff; if I didn't know better, it could easily pass for mid level (~ $1K) real guitar - fit, finish, playing, looks and feel wise.

I have a set of DiMarzio's on order for it. I wouldn't be surprised to learn it was made in the same Chinese factory that makes actual Chinese guitars for the brand, and probably other brands.

Wasn't Slash's AFD guitar used on the album a copy? Could be a rumor

Yes; I think it was a builder who did legit 59 repros....which we all know can cost 10k or more these days. But I'm not positive; need a Slash head to come in to confirm. The LP he had wasn't a super expensive clone though; they had no cash at that time.

Glad I watched the video. Had me looking at my Gibson guitars.

“Fake electrical plugs can cause fires”. Is Tesla making these in their plant in China?

@thegame your humour has caused the thread to pip the scales and thusly deserve a home-page entry. :dunno:

There's a Chibson FB page where people promote these fakes.
I don't understand why people don't get a clone and just leave the Gibson badging off it.
You know it's fake, why pretend you have a real one?

Trying to do the math here. They said there were 3,000 guitars. They said the price ranged from $500 to $2,000.

So how does that add up to an $18 million bust?

Man, those wacky media personnel not double checking their facts.

I think the scary part though is how genuine some of those guitars looked. I seriously could not tell just by looking at them.
