Ed was using pitch shift since Fair Warning. DF

Tastefully vs. smeared on like a thick glop of peanut butter.

DLR is basically a hype man for Eddie, and that's fine with me. Flavor Dave.

Don't worry, as soon as the Roth circus run's its course of ridicule Eddy will come running back to Sammy and crank up another iteration to go on the road and make money. And Sammy will be on board because his net worth is more than the rest of them. Roth is convenient right now so they can marginalize him financially much easier along with cutting out Anthony and giving Wolfie crazy money for someone his age.

I loved all of Ed's tones until the last studio album. I thought 5150 tone was awesome. It was huge. the song 5150 is gorgeous tone on par with any all time tomes from any player to me.

I think it is dumb for people to complain about any VH singer. They both brought different thinsg to the table.

But now at the nd of the day (and probably their careers) you still have to be able to sing. I loved Dave's voice back in teh day. He had a nice baritone that was warm and inviting. DLR's voice now sounds rough and horse like an old man that called out bingo a few to many times.

Like many here I grew up on Van Halen. When I finally got to see them live Sammy Hagar was singing. Sceptic as I was I had to admit that he was awesome. And the band was super tight! This is the actual concert, and I have never come across a better live performance by them. And I miss Mike! Anyway, enjoy..

Whether you dig the music on this video Luther910 posted you have to admit they are tight and sound like they should...Daves lack of rehearsals show...you can tell these guys were well rehearsed for this show posted above. Yes musically its different, you had a different writer in the band. Still great IMO, just different.

Big Van Hagar fan...although I hate that name. I call them Van Halen. This version of the band is the reason I started playing guitar. I love Dave era too but really can't stand Dave's whole shtick. I realize he didn't sing well back then but nowadays its just unbearable.

Say what you want, at least the guy can fucking sing!!!

Sure Sammy can sing.... but he will not be singing two nights in a row on Kimmel with the largest crowd for any musical act in the show's history. :aww:

You're about at that point from what I saw last night. Love the DLR era songs, no love for Dave. Sorry but he's well past his expiration date. Sammy can still bring it. I liked the Van Hager stuff for what it was, just a different version of the band. I think they had more hits with Sammy and Ill gamble made more money in that era as well.

All I know is that I was the biggest VH fan in the world as a kid, then 5150 was released. I've never been so disappointed in an album before or after... The VH energy was totally gone IMO. It was even worse than Bob Rock getting a hold of Metallica. Nickelback has a lot of hits and makes a lot of money as well, but I ain't listening to that garbage either. ;)
This!

Apples and oranges folks...there are plenty of old video's and live recording with Dave that sound fine. In fact the whole package...DLR, Ed, Mike and Alex made the band. Sure Dave sounded better in 1980 but it was still Dave doing his schtick and if you were lucky enough to see them back then it was all about energy. They basically just rolled over you.

Van Hagar was a different animal...still good live but the vibe was completely different. VH with Sam wasn't about raw energy...as a whole they were a little more laid back.

Frankly, Mike would do wonders with Dave in the band now. Vocally he was the root of the band live and right now would help carry Dave a lot...not to mention he would also give Dave someone to interact with onstage. To me that's something missing as well.

Regardless Sam isn't coming back...way to much water under the bridge between him and the brothers and most of it is financial. A lot of stuff went down between them, don't see that be repaired at this point.

Plain and simple...Anytime an act breaks big or bigger as Van Halen did...Any change is gonna make a difference whether good or bad but...still a difference and always going to be compared to the original line up and..it never compares to the original line up. That's what made them break as big as they did?

Suck it! There's no real Van Halen without Dave. I'd rather watch DLR roll around on stage in a wheelchair with a colostomy bag than hear Sammy whine his way through "why can't this be love" any day.

Wish granted. MA and Hagar are not coming back to that train wreck

Guitar players can say that Van Hagar was not as good as classic VH - but how do you measure that? I think Van Hagar outsold them in albums, concerts, and everything else. I think the guys made more $$ personally as well.

In addition, how many #1 albums did Classic VH have vs Van Hagar? I have not researched it and am just wondering out loud.....

Grew up listening to Sammy - Standing Hampton, 3 lock Box etc

Love me some old Hagar

Same with DLR era VH - got every album

Yet, I dont own / listen to / nor care about Van Hagar

Van Hagar isn't about rock - its about radio play (ie Show Me The $$ Money)

VH I and 1984 both went Diamond. They are the band's best selling albums by far.

I am at the age where when I first got into music ou812 was out. I honestly wasn't the biggest fan of the Sammy era stuff until Balance came out which is still one of my favorite discs. I also saw them live on that tour and to this day it is still one of the best shows I have seen. After that I appreciated a lot of the Sammy era stuff I hadn't previously. I still think the early Dave stuff is their strongest material but if I were to see them live I would pick Sammy without question.
