The question is should I get the Super Sport or Street Rod?

I'll be using it mostly for Hard Rock/Metal. My main concerns are:
1) low volume tone
2) more than gain w/o a boost for metal

Quick Rod

Yep, Quickrod!! Of course that's my opinion. Especially the newer models.
Great cleans, great crunch, great metal tones. With the newer effects loop you can get good low volume tones too.
The 4 button footswitch makes changing gears an option, plus has access to OD1/2 options, plus has a solo feature too. Great options for a great price. More flexibility.
What's your cab choice, if you get a head??

Street Rod is the combo version of the QR. If you could get the 4 button footswitch with a Street Rod, you could have the same options, I just don't think you can.
IMO, you NEED the gear changing button to let go of the necessity for a boost pedal.
SuperSport doesn't have the EL34 tubes...that changes things tonewise. Not bad, just different.

If your main concern is low volume, the newer QR will do that for you without a stepdown in power. You have the flexibility to get louder if needed as well.

If your hell bent on lower wattage, I would favor the Street Rod for the EL34 tubes. Yet I would surely go with the QuickRod over both of your suggestions. Good luck!!

Damn right u are! Haha. I've been a splawn player since 2006...love them. Super sport is damn cool....why not a competition? Or a Pro Stock?

I don't think you guys understand that it'll never get above tv volumes. I think a QR is overkill.

It really isn't. The Loop Master volume is pretty stellar. Sold my River RockCrusher because of how good it sounds at low volume.

I've been using a Splawn QR for over a year now and been really happy with it ever since. Great tones, easy to control, takes my pedals well... I highly recommend.

Really?

I agree the loop volume is great. I have in engaged 99% of the time. Sounds killer at super low volume. That's why I suggested Quick Rod. The others you asked about seem like a compromise to me, and probably at a higher price.

Hmmm, I'll keep my eyes open for any QR type then. I like the SR IDE best, only bc it's essentially a QR Drop B+....but 40/20 watts. Seems perfect!

The reason I think the Street Rod would be perfect is bc it's essentially a half power QR w Drop B+. 40/20 watts. Sounds tits!

That's news to me. My understanding is that only the QR and new upcoming Anniversary model have the drop B+ option. Maybe they offer it now.

The SR is essentially a half power QR w lower plate voltage

Talked w Splawn today, they suggest a 50 watt QR. They say the SS and SR sound different.

Forgot they were making the 50w QR. That is new. yeah, to me both the SR and SS sound different than the QR. SR more classic rock.

Listening to clips on YouTube etc...(I know, terrible way to judge)...but man, I think the Street Rod sounds kickass. Almost a bit more saturation and tameness on the top end. Plenty of gain though! Plus, there's a head on eBay right now......been watching it. Switchable down to 20watts
