I'm definitely going to get a Suhr Reactive Load when I find one in stock. The Street Rod sounds exactly like a QuickRod btw.

Got the Street Rod combo in today. Sounds phenomenal at low volumes! It's so different than jamming on my Kemper. No better or worse, I guess it's been a while since I've had a real amp. Going to throw a 57 on it tomorrow and post some clips.

That's excellent!! Glad you are diggin' the tones.
I have a variety of goodies, yet there's nothing like cranking the Splawn!!!
Looking forward to your clips.
Again, congrats

Cool man! I have a good friend who plays nothing but Splawn amps.

Love my Splawns ! Ive had a 2010 QR and later I had a B+ QR. I also had a 2008 Nitro. Sold all of them and still have my 2012 Nitro. I use an MXR 10 band EQ in the loop with some delay and I push the front end with either an Aldrich Rocket Fuel or an MXR ZW OD. I can get just about any rock tone I want with this. The EQ in the loop is huge for me. I regret not experimenting with the QR more.

Splawn guitars are killer also. I have an SS2 and an SS1 ordered and paid for. The SS1 is getting a custom comic book graphic.

Sorry....I think Im way off topic now. Glad you are digging your Splawns and happy new amp day.

Well????

LOL! Honestly man, I am really excited for you. I know that sounds h-o-m-o but I love my damn QR so much I think very one needs to have some Splawn in their lives. It's like you owe it to yourself.

Me too. Owned 4. 3 Quickrods and a Competition. Where my tone is at now, is heavenly....

Clips are going to have to wait...I just can't get it to sit in the mix like the Kemper at this point in time. Probably because I'm using a single sm57 on a 1x12 combo at whisper volumes...and I'm not great at mic positioning. I tried my best though lol I will say the Splawn sounds "bigger" when solo'd compared to the Kemper...but it just doesn't sit properly in the mix yet.

I think I'm going to need to find a Suhr Reactive Load and use impulses. I'd really hate to go back to the Kemper just based on the fact that it sits in the mix better....but damn....that's really the only thing I do these days, home recordings. Things sounds fucking spectacular in the room though!

I gotta admit, I'm torn between a load box/IR combo...and just going back with the Kemper. I'm a bedroom studio guy at this point, nothing more...and the Kemper just kinda fit the bill. Although I'm really curious what a good load box/IR combo would do for this Splawn.

You'll get it man. You're used to working with your Kemper. I personally like lower volume mic'd recordings with my Quick Rod than what I got with my Rivera RockCrusher and impulses.

Do you like your Kemper tracks better than your mic'd QR tracks though?

Yes BUT only because I can't get the Splawn loud enough to record properly. I'm actually going to properly profile the Quick Rod for that very reason. Nothing touches the QR live pushing a bunch of air.

I would agree with that for live. I'm just such a bedroom only studio player that I really think I made a mistake selling the Kemper.

Wait ...

You sold your Kemper??? For some reason I thought you had both?

I sold it to get a rack version, got tired of waiting for a used rack version....decided to go back to a "real" amp. Think I messed up. Been happy for 2 years with the Kemper.

Well, honestly man, even 20 watts is really too loud for home use without an attenuator. Especially if you are set up around having used a modeler. An attenuator will definitely help but IMHO won't sound any better than using the Loop Master.

Don't let it bum you out though, the Street Rod is a rad amp.

Here is a clip of my Quick Rod mic'd at low, conversational volumes. It is boosted with the Black Arts Coven (Black Forest side). It still sounds awesome. Don't pay attention to the vocals! LOL!

Mic'd with the Sennheiser e609.

The StreetRod is a cool amp, from what I have heard, even though I am a QR guy.
I am sorry to hear you sold your Kemper. It is a different animal to go amp/cab than a modeler.
Also, I am with JerEvil about having both. As for myself, I have 2 QR's and a Kemper AND and Axe FX...gotta try it all. Can always resell.

I didn't understand that you ONLY wanted a recording device.
I mean, both the Kemper and the Axe FX are very well suited to that. Plug in and go. Also, good effects options.
FYI, both units have new firmware out recently that has "AGAIN" improved the gear...and actually it really has.

That said, I would also consider trying a Two Notes C.A.B. with your Street Rod.
I have used one and the IR's are good, the different mics are adjustable, and plus you can install your own if you like.
Go direct out of your C.A.B. into your interface. Easy...no sound.

Anyway, I love the Splawn stuff and the newer models (post 2012), with the improved clean and effects master, are wonderful at low volumes.
I have an older model and a 2014. The older QR just sounds INSANE, but it HAS to be loud...just amazing tone though.
The 2014 is a B+ QR and has great tones as well, great clean, and the effects master.

Remember, an amp at lower volume will need more high-mid and treble to sit well in a mix...as you turn up the Master the amp will regain balance and you will have to lower those settings.
IMO, you might want to give yourself some more time with the StreetRod...it is different from a profiler or modeler.
However, if you see a used Kemper or Axe FX...you might want to grab one of those too. :D
