You mean like everybody pays 20% tax or whatever, no exceptions type deal? No issue with this here.

It is basically a flat percentage on goods purchased. Such as the mentality as what you said above on people that use the roads more pay more. The individual that makes $250,000 a year definitely purchases more goods that the single mom on a $20,000 a year salary. So the taxes is a percentage of purchases and there are not tax breaks for the wealthy complaints, etc...

http://www.freedomworks.org/informed/ke ... ssue_it=17

The fair tax is another way that would work and is better than our current system. I actually prefer this over the flat tax, but either is better than what we have.

http://www.freedomworks.org/informed/ke ... ssue_it=17
I love that idea.
I do too but it takes a lot of power away from Gov officials so I seriously doubt it ever has any chance making it.

To me the overall differences in the Liberal view and the Conservative view is Socialism versus Capitalism. To put this into gear related terms:

You spend the last year gigging non stop. You buy your new rack setup based on the work and efforts you put in over the last year. You also have a family and full time job you keep and you are building your American dream.

Then there is the other guy who basically decides he wants a rig but does not want to work for it and does not really care to have a job since he is doing fine as is.

You can help him out and maybe give him your old rig, that would be a generous offer. Or you can have a governing power step in and say wow you are making money from the job and gigging and your income is quite high, let's take your new rig and give it to the less fortunate guy. You still have the old rig anyway.

That is the mentality of punishing the person who does well (Socialistic) views that a lot of liberal policies are based off of. I cannot buy into this mentality.
That's a hell of an analogy.
I do see your point. But by the same token, growing up i a Socialist country that thrived I don't really view it like this.

Once upon a time I was out of work, out of money, out of everything. And the system worked for me. Subsequently when I made money I was quite happy to know that me paying into it would tak care of some one else that is in the same situation.

So nosebleedkid and cloudnine are both university students? And we are arguing with them still? We all know how much smarter we were than the "grown ups" when we were in college.

Nosebleedkid is freaking hilarious though. What a knob. The guy starts disputing information from newspaper articles because he is not sure if the research and info was gathered in the proper fashion, then he has the freaking audacity to post something like this? LMAO at the noob at life.

I'm not Chinese, but many people I'm at University with are Chinese, or Singaporean International students.

Almost universally they beleive stricter government regulation is a much better thing than the opposite. I'm not sure how they feel about things like censorship etc, but as far as crime, homelessness, health I know they all prefer China to Western countries.

There may be a few exceptions to this. I'm simply going on the conversations I've had.

Well I don't know how much more scientific you can get than that. I am going to need to print that up and hand it out to the boatloads of Chinese sneaking out of their country to come to the west. Obviously there are TONS of people from "the west" clamoring to get into China and Singapore to better their lives and to have less individual freedom. Our country is almost empty with people leaving trying to get into all the other obviously superior countries in the world.

And those Chinese students going to school in Australia are there why? I'd type more but my hands are shaking too much from laughter.

Freaking college kids are so educational aren't they?

I was one myself and man I used to get into it with my parents and my boss. They were such idiots. Instead of them learning from me when I was so obviously smarter, time went on and I became an idiot too.

:D Forgot to mention this:

I recently heard McCain comparing the threat of Iran equal to the threat of the old Soviet Union.  The USSR had thousands of nukes, most of them pointed at us, both on the ground and in satellites. Iran has some pieces of a centrifuge....not one nuke. lol We still went to the diplomacy table with the Soviet Union, but with Iran that's a 'bad idea', and Obama is being taken to task for saying that. Oh the hilarity!

See, this is the kinda shit that makes me think that McCain, albeit a sweet old man, is a total moron, playing off the fear of the uneducated lemmings.

Did the USSR start off with thousands of nukes, or did it begin with just a cetrifuge? If they get one, they'll have two, then a few dozen...

When we went with the USSR to the diplomacy table, what did we want and what did they want? We wanted them to disarm, and they wanted us to disarm. There's room for negotiations there.

With Iran, what do we want, and what do they want? We want them to disarm. What do they want? They want Israel and the rest of the western world to die. Where do negotiations begin there?

In some ways the relationship is similar to the cold war, in other ways it's vastly different. For Obama to say he's going to just sweep in there and start having personal talks with Iran is the height of immature ignorance in diplomacy.

The USSR wanted to (notice quotes) "wipe us from the planet"....they didn't want us to disarm.

I still don't see how you can equate the two......Iran does not have a nuke. And for what it's worth, the Persian people are not all fanatical nutjobs...they're highly educated, good people, and regretful for their shortsightedness in the revolution (very similar to a great movie called Land of the Blind...replacing one bad dictator with a worse one)....the Shah was as corrupt as they come, but most of the Persians are still longing for the old glory/Vegas days of Tehran.

I don't think all of Iran, or any of the other surrounding countries are all nutjobs, but their leaders are, and in many ways I feel sorry for them for the horrific Governments that they have. I'm not sure if you thought I was saying that but if so that's not what I meant.

There are quite a few parallels between the two. Russia started off with a single Centrifuge too, and if the threat from Iran isn't stamped out, it will become another cold war. Personally I'm much more comfortable with a leader that is willing to take a tough stance on these people than someone that's wanting to rush headlong into the Lions den to have tea with them. That type of diplomacy worked out extremely well for Clinton with the North Koreans didn't it? That's just how I feel about it, I think that issue alone is one of Obamas biggest achilles heels. He fucked himself pretty good with some of those quotes and then backtracking a bit. We'll have to see how it all turns out in the debates etc.

What's sad is that it takes 5 fucking seconds to check if the awesome chain mail you recieved is true. Of course, the people sending them count on the fact that most won't.

Don't forget him running on a platform of national security and curbing terrorism - when he doesn't even know the difference between a Sunni and a Shiite and who is doing what with Iran.

John McCain - Qualified.

You should check your facts as I watched on CNN the live coverage of him not covering his heart. So your really should take the 5 seconds to get more than one source. BTW are you ungrounded now, if not don't let your mom catch you on the computer.

Yeah, Obama didn't put his hand on his heart. If you'll read the article you'll notice numerous times where he did in fact put his hand over his heart.

But hey, flag pin mentality.
