Hello
I received a VHX yesterday from GC that had a comically bad packing job. The amp seems to have somehow survived but is making only a crackling sound when playing notes like a noise gate is turned up to max.
It is loaded with KT77's and it looks like three of the four are lighting up.
I am guessing it is the tubes but don't really want to roll the dice on keeping it unless that is the case.
I don't know anything technical about amps,,I do have a Suhr PT100 that runs on EL34's which I read can be used in the VHX if biased for it...
My question: Could I safely pull the power tubes out of the Suhr and put them into the VHX jand play for 30-60 seconds at a reasonable volume just to confirm it is the tubes? If that turned-out to be the case I would order some KT77's and have it biased for them.
Thank you in advance!
