Difference between the small box mod and a small box amp?

Is there much difference in an amp that has the small box mod vs buying a brand new small box?

Right off the bat the transformers always play a roll in the overall tone. I'm sure the two will sound similar but not identical. And both with sound great.

I emailed Dave and he said yes they would definitely sound different.
