I don't use actual distortion pedals except when I'm going for a specific tone

Generally one of my LWA pedals for a rat or hm2 tone

I don't generally like pedal distortion very much, but I like some miab pedals

Did I offend you at some point?

I don't really understand the passive/aggressive insults?
No you didn't. I was just messing around making a bad interpretation of your post. No offense has been taken, none given, I hope. I was just aiming for some light hearted morning humor.

I appreciate the words.
Lately I have snuck away a little, things being posted started getting to me a little and using my alt for goofiness wasn't helping me either.

I love fun and humor, sorry I didn't pick up on it.

I now understand why TGP moderates the way it does.
Not that I agree with all their reasoning, but...

All good brother. I'm here for the gear discussions and joking around. You mentioned owning a Barber and a PoT so I just ran with it. I need to try some of the Barber stuff one of these days. Still kicking myself for not picking up a cheap burn unit at my local guitar shop a few years back.

Cant believe I needed the explanation!!!?‍♂️

Went right over my 'effing head!
Good one though...

For almost two years I had no actual tube amp and used a pedal rig consisting of a AMT F1 Fender style clean preamp pedal into a Mosvalve power amp and used distortion pedals in front of the AMT. Here is one that definitely flew under the radar.

I have other clips too. The Caline Englishman, SLO, BE OD Deluxe and my favorite, the JPTR FX Katastrophe.

Nice .......... that sucker gets thick eh ??

When I first got my 72 SL I double boosted it with 2 OD pedals. Sounded killer; and sent a Wizard MC100 packing. Always wondered about an actual Dist pedal instead of double boosting with ODs....bought a BE OD clone from Joyo, an Uzi. Sounded really good...but still wondered about the actual BE pedal. Instead of buying one, @griff10672 made me a clone, called the Tone Ripper. What a great pedal...raw and jagged, just aggressive as all F. Love it.
The other really cool thing with Distortion pedals, or at least the 2 I have is the Vol acts as a master vol in front of either of my 1972 Marshalls...no need for an attenuator with these pedals.
To my ear these amps sound just as great as a modded Marshall; and these are completely stock vintage amps that I simply boost with pedals. You can also set the amp's clean sound volume to unity gain with the pedal output, so now you have a legit 2 channel Plexi that you keep totally stock.
This would also work killer with an old Bassman as well......

KSR Ceres stomps most stuff if you're using it as a preamp.

For running into the front of the amp I use Bogner. The Wessex and Burnley combo is really nice, but it's not for chugging metal. More Rock/Lead oriented. The Red and Blue are also nice, if you like the Ecstasy. I didn't like the 101B I owned.

I love the VFE Standout and the V3 Standout. Not sure they are considered “Distortion” pedals, but they can be set to add a little drive or a lot. I personally use them with an amp with that has mid gain. I’ve tried to set an EQ to duplicate the sound but they have some Mojo that can’t be easily replicated.

I use a JHS Switchback to go back and fourth in real time when tinkering. The Switchback is a cool pedal.

I've used a Bogner Ecstasy Blue, and La Grange (both full size versions), and they were both great. I currently am screwing around with a Suhr Riot mini and its pretty killer too, though I'm thinking I'd like to try a Suhr Eclipse so I can have one side set up for a Strat, the other side set up for humbuckers.

Marshall Guv’nor with a TS-5 in front was my first pedal stacking in the mid 90’s. Used it in front of my 60’s Orange 100 watt. Worked great.

Now I use the TS-5 in front of a 1981 Rat pedal. Sometimes an Sd-1 into the TS-5 or Rat.

Using my Anderson tele into the Sd-1 or TS-5 into a Boss Blues Driver into a 60’s Princeton Reverb sounds really good, surprised at that one.

Tried the DS1 a few times and never could get that to work.

I haven't been convinced by any true distortion pedals, but there have been some I really liked that are like a middle ground of overdrive/distortion pedals that I like to use in light to moderately overdriven amps like a '70's Roland BeeGee, '70's Guyatone Zoom Box, '70's Maxon Distortion Booster, '60's Vox Distortion Booster and Gretsch ExpandaFuzz, sometimes also an '80's HM2

The problem is a lot of what makes these pedals so special to me is how organic and raw they sound since they're all vintage and I just haven't gotten that in any recent made pedals I've had. The closest has been the Thorpy pedals and Coppersound Broadway. They're organic sounding for something recent

Only one that works for me is the mxr super bad ass.
Keep it about noon.

Not so bad ass at that setting but gives me everything i need and more.

I rarely use dirt pedals, I prefer getting what I want from my amp and use an EQ pedal for variation (e.g., different rhythm tones or lead tones); but my favorite dirt pedal is my Source Audio UltraWave.

edit: my fav EQ pedal is my Source Audio EQ2. When I want effects, my HX-Effects covers just about anything.

I’ve never been so impressed by a pedal, that is also a hard no, in my life….?

I just recently got a Catalinbread Karma Suture (Fuzz) that actually can be set to be an awesome boost for a crunchy Marshall type tone. it has a separate low end control (density) so with the input (level of fuzz) set lower so it will be raw but tighter, you just bring up the density to fill out the sound. Great, wilder hard rock tone but palm mutes etc still sound together and percussive.

I hate distortion pedals . Not trying to be negative but if never use one . They just never sound real to me
