Do I need a Splawn Nitro?

Ok so I've been getting interested in a Splawn Nitro. I know they are like a hot rodded JCM, BUT here's my problem. I don't know if I'm going to find something more out of it than what I currently have. Mostly because I don't have the option to play a Splawn, and can only go by what I see/hear in clips. I currently own a modded JSX w/ KT77s, Laney AOR 100 w/ 6ca7s, and a Peavey VTM w/ Sovtek 6L6s. I feel like I have a million tones at my hands. And I love all of my amps and not looking to get rid of any of them. But would the Splawn be different than any of my current amps? Or would I just be getting an amp that one of my others can already do? Just curious on everyones opinions. Thanks!
 
The Nitro will pummel those amps just in the low end category. My Nitro has more low end than any of my other amps. The newer Nitro's have more useable gain. Mine is an early model and I found it to be a bit too dry. It was glorious with a boost. The new ones sound more like what I wanted out of my old one. I ended up having some mods done to mine and I absolutely love the amp again. The Nitro is very articulate. If you are sloppy at all, it will show when you play. I guess the real question is what are you looking for in the Nitro? If you want low end, articulation and mean, you got it. I think the Quick Rod is more like a hot-rodded JCM800.
 
The Nitro is different than all the amps you have listed. It sure is capable of a ton of low end if you want it. Very cool amp with a lot of balls. KT88s seem to be pretty popular in the Nitro. I had mine loaded with =C= EL34s and really couldn't imagine it sounding any better.
 
I have a 2008 Nitro. Like Laura stated its a bit dry but has lotsa bottom end. I played a Dual rec before the Nitro for almost a decade. The Nitro sounds nothing like a DR but to me it is everything I wanted my DR to be. Its got lots of low end but is tameable. No fuzzy fizzy stuff with a Splawn.

The Nitro does not have gain like a 6505/5150. My amp is a bit dry for my liking. I just ordered a 2012 straight from the shop that should arrive in the next week. Im hoping the revisions that have occurred since 2008 will address the issues I have had with my Nitro.

If you like a modern voiced amp with lots of low mid voicings than the Nitro is a great amp. Not a bedroom amp though. Splawn amps are stupid loud.
 
I also want to mention that I had been playing a 6505+ for a few years before owning the Nitro. To me, the Nitro did everything my 6505+ did but better. One thing I liked a lot more was that it was far more percussive than the Peavey. As far as gain goes, it had way more than I needed. Never had it past noon and only stepped on the "OD2" button for fun. I never ran the gain on my 6505 past 4 on the dial. Both can get super heavy tones without running the gain very high.

Hey Bubba, how old is your Nitro?
 
Splawn nitro's are killer amps. I cant saything more about them that hasnt already been said, because those descriptions pretty well sum up the amp. You will be amazed at how powerful the nitro is compared to what you currently have.
 
I would pull the trigger if I were you. I got a 2010 model recently without ever playing one before and arguably its one of the best purchases I have made. You will be hard pressed to find and amp that is voiced like the Nitro. It is really unique.

I don't have it anymore. It was a 2008. It belongs to Racerevlon here on the forum. It was the one used in Lugos amp fest. Of course Race had to go and throw some KT88s in there and mess it all up. :doh: :lol: :LOL: :lol: :LOL:

here it is right before I sold it.
 
I only experimented... It's back to EL34's now. Sounds tighter and cuts more, but the gain with the KT88'S was off the charts! It was still EL34'S at the amp 'fest.

Now looking to try KT88'S in one of my Quick Rods.

This clip is exactly why I don't understand guys that flip amps. That sounds killer. With bass and drums, trio style, it would kill. :rock:

I know that amp (and I'm sure many of the others) sounds better than the Ampfest vids. Still sounded very good though. I tried a pair of KT88s in my 50 watt Competition and other than a slight volume increase, didn't really notice much. I recorded a clip of each and neither myself or my friend could hear a difference on the recorded tones. I am a little deaf in one ear though. :lol: :LOL: I'm still Chupa-curious. You still diggin the Chupa? I will be needing a 2nd amp within the next couple of months.

I just don't keep around what I don't have a real use for. That Nitro does sound bad ass and I liked it very much. Thing is at the time my Competition fit what I was doing a little better. When I got my modded VTM, it was everything I wanted. I still had no real need for two amps so the Competition went bye bye also. Most likely in the next couple of months I will have a genuine use/need for two amps. Since I can't get another modded VTM exactly like the one I have(which is what I want the most) , I'll have to consider others.
 
The Chupacabra is a MAD machine and will most likely never leave my stable. I took it to rehearsal one day and the band told me they wouldn't mind if the Chupacabra became my #1 amp over the Quick Rod. I've already had an offer from the seller to buy it back!

I know I'm lagging in the clips department but I been working like a dawg.
