Do you omit distortion/fuzz/overdrive pedals from your guitar rig by relying only on the capabilities of your amps?
Why?
What kind of music do you play/write?

Could get away with it with my Mesa Mark series (somewhat)...but no.

Denying yourself. Our Buddist Monk count here is very low.

Not with my amps, anymore, since I switched to Boogie amps.

For 40 years I played Marshall or Fender amps and I had a bunch of pedals for them, but Boogie? Nope!

I went without boots for a few years but a nice boots pedal is just a valuable tool. If I could always crank my amp I might still not use boots but it just gives you that little extra something on top of a loud Twin that makes life nice so boots is the only pedal I use.

I don't usually use them.
Rarely, only if necessary.
I don't think I ever used one at a gig.

I use overdrive and distortion but not fuzz. I just never got into the fuzz sound. Distortion is enough clipping for me. Maybe fuzz is for the lead guitarists that need those fat solo tones...and Hendrix.

I don't use boosts, od, dist, with my amps; I like the sound of my amps, and rarely use any effects except an EQ with a few exceptions.

I tend to go for '70s hard rock (e.g., Kiss), '80s hair metal, fusion and prog tones, and have different rigs for most. I try using the least amount of gear I can get away with.

For prog, I have a Mesa JP-2C, and I use my HX-Effects in 4CM; I sometimes use my FuzzFactory in front of my 1959x, and I have a Hendrix patch in my HX-Effects I use in front of the SLP.

I tend to use more effects with my computer software rig, my digital modelers, and my preamp/effects rigs (ISP Theta Michael Sweet).

I prefer amps that I can go from clean to crunch with the volume knob on the guitar. Or pluck harder on my bass.

Fender Brown deluxe cranked- guitar
Ampeg SVT II non pro- bass

Depends on the amp.

My splawn or 5150, I plug straight in.
The deluxe reverb in my living room, fuzz & OD all day.

I used to be an Always ON kinda guy.
Now I rarely turn them on.
Dual Rec and Splawn in stereo
Metal/rock

I use a Mesa Mark IV so no boost is really nessesary, but occasionally I'll use a Maxon od-808 with it. I used to use boosts all of the time though, with different rigs.
