Does anyone find pick attack/response of an SLO a bit slow?

So I wonder what the hell it is? I kind of doubt it's in the preamp. Boosting doesn't seem to lessen it and the layout of the preamp has plenty of compression, boost to the signal, etc., on it's own. Is it a power supply/B+ sag type of thing?

It's filtering in the PI stage of the amp and that it has .047uf PI coupling caps which extends the range that hits the power tubes. Up the filtering from say 40uf to 100uf and see how it changes the feel of the amp. This will change the attack (quicker) of the amp and make it more stiffer feeling.

Thanks for the info. If so, will it change the tone of the amp at all or just feel?

Most of the time when you change filtering in the amp it will do a couple things, change the feel and how the amp responds to your playing as well as tone, more filtering the amp as well could sound cleaner sounding. In this case and from my experience with this circuit and where the cap is placed is that it will just more so change the feel of the amp. Add filtering and it will make the PI section tighter and more responsive to your playing. It will sound more controlled.

Thank you for the input. I will have to look into doing this. On one hand, I almost hate to mod an SLO. On the other hand, if th response was just a little tighter it would be an absolutely perfect high gain amp for me.

I don't consider the SLO to be that tight.

With out a boost it's kind of muddy, doing chugs and tight palm mutes.

Through a OD pedal in front as a boost.
Really improves the attack and tightness a lot

But it's the "lag" that really gives the SLO it's incredible singing 3D lead tone.

I was on the fence about the SLO until I boosted it. Then...I got it.
