I do my own now. My first re-fret was on my 1980 LP Standard with neck binding. I didn't want to pay 400 dollars for re-fret so I bit the bullet and did it myself. Turned out really good even though I made a lot of rookie mistakes. I just finished doing my 1984 Explorer too & that also turned out great.

That’s brave popping your cherry on a valuable guitar with neck binding. Makes sense though. If you can pull that off you can pull anything off.

I wish I had this skill. Here in my neck of the woods in Jersey, prices have gotten insanely high. With many of the old timers dying off, I feel there is a sense of entitlement to charge crazy prices. A local guy just quoted me over $600 to refret an American Vintage 1959 Reissue Strat. Yes, over 6 bones - not happening. I felt liked asking him if I got a kiss before he Fu**ed me.
