Anyone have some decent recommendations or have had personal experience with a re-fret in the Atlanta area. I have someone who’s done one in the past and it was fine but was fairly expensive, so I’m looking for options.

I live in Covington, Ga.... I had McDonough Music, in McDonough of course, do a refret on my 1990 Les Paul Studio about four years ago... Superb job.
Talk to Nathan (I think that's his name), he owns the place.

I don’t know of any, but maybe give Jimmy at Atlanta Discount a call and ask him. He’s always helpful.

Actually the guy I used before works out of there. I’ll probably use him again because the last job turned out well (so a known quantity) but he took over twice as long as he said he would and it ended up being a little above what he set as a range of price, so exploring options.

I've only been there once, but was surprised to see a plek machine at Righteous Guitars...might want to give them a ring.
Atlanta Discount Music is a cool shop too, was able to try out a used SLO there for the first time years ago. Way better than the shitty GC down here in Tallahassee.

If you're talking about Kaelin, who now works out of Atlanta Discount, he's a good guy and reasonably priced. Never had him do a re-fret, but lots of electronics and currently having him do a refinish. Strong attention to detail, which I like. His timing can be a little vague, but OK with that. He's willing to think through different approaches and try things out.
Righteous is just too expensive, and Ben hasn't been there for a while. Not a lot of other options that I know of, especially if you ever get into spraying.
Would love any options on amps. I use Jon Bailey. Great guy, but busy like all and getting more into family life - so always on the lookout. Wish Jeff Andrews would come out of retirement.

This time last year I was looking to have a refret done, I was recommended to reach out to Righteous, but at that time they paused accepting new refret jobs as they were at least 12 months back logged. Tried to talk to the shop in Hoover Al, they were 9-10 months lead time on it. I never reached out to any of the guys in Nashville to check but I imagine the turn around up there would be a lot better... it seems refretting is a dying art. I ended up doing mine myself and it turned out very well, but I have been in and around the trades most of my life and I am no stranger to using tools.

Idk if you’re ever up this way, I had Sam Eakins / Elite Strings do a stainless re-fret on my old MIM tele & a vintage style on my ‘59 es330. He stays pretty busy, I think around 2-3 months to get those done. I was happy with the end result though.
He’s out of Duncan SC, a couple of hours north of Atlanta.

I usually take my stuff to Southeastern Guitar Repair for routine stuff.
I've never had a refret done but I've heard some good reviews of https://aperioguitar.com/
I can't personally vouch for them. though.

Thanks for the ideas guys. Going to drop it off tomorrow with the guy who did my last one (Atlanta Discount Music). I figured why worry about what may amount to a less than $50 difference and possibly even longer turnaround, when I know ultimately it will turn out good and he cares about making sure it stays good.
I think secretly I just hoped to stumble on someone closer or in a place where I’m not going near the perimeter as driving through ATL is getting old.

I like Jon, he’s been my go to for a few years now. He’s working out of his house now but still does pickup/drop off at Atlanta Discount.
Sometimes though, you want to talk over the amp while it’s on their bench which would be difficult now.

Jon is great! He's worked on two of my Marshalls... Replaced PT on one and cap job on the other... Also, for both of them since they are considered vintage, he redid the grounding and now there is no hum. I've met him and talked shop with him for a good while. He used to have a shop in Clarkston but now works out of his house north of the ATL.
