Dokken to reunite for the money only

Does Dominos really like making pizza? Do the do it because they love pizza? Originally yes probably but now it's a business, it's for the money.

Same for alot of bands these days, there are people wanting to consume it and there will always be a band willing to play purely to meet that demand and make a profit. Even if the music was a passion to begin with.... passion wont pay for your daughters orthodontist appointment

Is there really that much money sitting around waiting for a Dokken reunion?
Yup..... I sure am. The thought of flying their for a show or two has even crossed my mind, just in case they do not do any shows together in America.

One of those original Dokken members lives around the corner from me and one of his closest friends is a close friend and neighbor of mine. He needs the money. His other gig does fewer and fewer shows every year and, AFAIK, he has no other source of income. He had to move in with his parents a while back when the IRS came after what he had left. His apt. now looks like the one I had right after college. If I were in his shoes, I'd jump on a serious gig offer like a hobo on a ham sandwich.

My Predictions : Don will point the mic at the crowd 70% of the show because he lost his voice 18 years ago and Lynch will wank endless A eolian scales.

Japanese are easy to please because they're stuck on an Island.

Let's look at it another way:
Is it wrong for people to do a shitty day job they hate for money?

Lol...yeah. I do it every damn day. Gotta pay the bills.

I only liked the guitar playing on Dokken records anyway. Lynch was the only part of the band I gave two shits about, I have no problem with them cashing in though. We all work to make money. God knows I'd rather play guitar for cash than sit here......

Wait? What? Someone is actually paying Dokken to reunite? I'm willing to start a kickstarter to make a counter-offer to them if they promise to stay apart; just give us some time to pull it together before you start playing shows.

Don can't sing worth shit and Lynch can play without a phase 90. lol.

True about Don. Last time I saw Dokken Pilson sang half the songs...... listen to KXM - really good playing and not all with a phase 90 ;-) Most of the time I'll see Lynch wanking on the Internet and I'm thinking WTF but get him in the studio and he (as he always has) just plays the coolest shit to fit the song.

Pretty terrible self marketing to admit something like that. I'd be livid if I was their promoter.
How can anyone get excited about seeing a band that openly admit their complete lack of excitement about playing?

Because anyone who would actually pay to see Dokken certainly knows their history - to imply they were getting back together for any other reason would be disingenuous.

Pretty much. I only saw them at Monsters of Rock in 1988, but I was there to see VH. Otherwise, I wouldn't pay to see Dokken. But they have their fans and those fans know they don't come out of retirement because they love being around each other. I know Jeff keeps busy, but I don't know how the other three make ends meet. How much money could they have made back in the day?

I'll wait for the reviews to come in but I seriously doubt they've given up completely on caring about their music just to throw some scheckels in their vault. Life is expensive and they're musicians attempting to make a living so I prefer to believe they'll at least try to make it a quality experience.. Does a 60 year old plumber put down his tools because he was once an ace but now has a smaller profile in the plumbing world? IDK, he's still gotta' eat & likely wants a roof over his plumbers butt. Bankrupt or not- they no doubt have a healthy amount of pride & ego.

I remember several years ago when a Japanese promoter offered a million dollars for an Alcatraz reunion with Graham Bonnet and Yngwie. Bonnet calls to try and talk to Yngwie and his wife/manager answers, turns him down and says "Yngwie makes a million dollars just walking down the street" [from endorsements] ....

I'd be surprised if Yngwie made more than about $20k a year in endorsements. The guitar biz is MUCH smaller than it was in the 80s. There just isn't enough profit in the handful of people buying stuff Yngwie endorses.

Yngwie seems to always be on tour, but the two times I saw him were in bars my own bands had played and for similar sized crowds. How much can he possibly make in those places? Or is he really raking it in from gigs in Europe and Japan? I can't name any songs or albums he did after about the third album. Is he getting rich from those royalties?

I am a huge Dokken fan and not too long ago I had zero interest in going to see them live because of how bad Don was sounding. His voice is getting better now after the cancer and after the vocal surgery. Don sounds pretty good in the clip I posted here from a recent show. George had a period 10 years ago or so where he really let his chops slide and took more liberty than he should have when playing some of the classic solos. Lynch can still nail the stuff note for note if he wants to, and I have seen him even breakdown little overdubbed parts in detail. I saw the Lynch Mob late last year and his playing and tone have never been better. he was using the Randall Headhunter with a Bogner modded JCM 800 as a backup.

Lynch has said in recent interviews that him and Don are fine now and even talk on the phone. Jeff Pilson talked about the reunion also and he sounded more positive about the personal dynamics of the reunited band. Lynch is my all time favorite player and Don Dokken in his prime is still my favorite singer. I am hoping things will go well enough that they will stay together for a bit and do some shows in America. As a Dokken fan I will take what I can get and enjoy the heck out of it.

So is Pilson the one who is broke and living with his parents? Too bad because he is the real talent in that band. That cat can sing... I imagine he will fill in the many gaps in vocals when Don takes a breather.

As for going broke, how these guy never managed to put aside or invest a couple hundred thousand is beyond me. Since the mid 80's to now they would have been set.

Uh, no. Jeff keeps pretty busy.

The money has always been why tours and shows were done. Sure, the smooth way would have been to say " it'll be great getting together and doing our classic stuff again - and the money is great!" But either way - cash is king!
