Not really accurate, Lynch was on fire into the early 90's, Back for the Attack (Mr Scary?) and Wicked Sensation were hardly the decline. What Jeff and Mick did really well were the backing harmonies, Dokken was great at that stuff, not really demanding on the bass and drums which you could say about most 80's hard rock bands. I can honestly say I never listened to Under Lock & Key and said, damn, if it wasn't for those drum fills, this would be a killer album. And Don is Don, diva or not, his band and for a period that dysfunctional group put out some stellar records.

On the albums, I agree... But Mick-live is not quite the same.

I have seen Mick live with Dokken and Nugent a bunch of times. I have never once seen him have any trouble or anything close to a bad show. Mick Brown is always solid as a rock live or in the studio. I consider Mick to be one of the most criminally underrated or overlooked drummers in rock music.

Well said and I agree completely.

don is a mo and a diva
lynch peaked during ulak tour and deserved all the accolades but never the same since-but nice guy
pilson was always solid
mick-pretty unremarkable

in general let that beaten horse stay washed up on the beach and dead but who can blame them for cashing in on the godzilla snack gravy train

So many LOLs.. :D

I burned down the Virgin Pussy train to this album and played it on tour.

For the record Wild Mick Brown is a verified Badass ...

Saw them first at a local club in 1982', loudest show ever saw at that venue, the rest is History.

They should get as much Jap Yen as humanly possible and cash the checks as soon as they clear.

Personally I think
Jon Levin out plays lynch now
Dons voice is shot
The reason it's Japan is no draw in US
Someone posted a show in a parking lot a few years
Ago in Chicago or something and there
Was 10 people there

This ^

I love George Lynch, he is the reason I picked up the guitar. I wore out Under Lock and Key and Tooth and Nail. The reality is, I like some of the new songs that Jon wrote (lightning strikes from a few years back is a great return for them) and I love a lot of Lynch Mob tunes. With a reunion, you get great songs, but not all of the great songs and Don who just can't do it anymore (unfortunately).

As to the OP, Mick has always been the clown and smart ass of the band, so it doesn't surprise me that he was so crass about it. With that said, does it make the GNR reunion any less to know that they're just doing it for the $?

Lynch is my favourite guitarist. I thought the Souls of We album and Smoke and Mirrors sounded amazing. I dug his playing with dokken and dig his playing now with Lynch Mob. Even KXM was pretty cool.

But every so often, a band gets it right with a replacement band member. Rob Marcello took over for Andy Timmons in D2. Totally different styles, but both are great players and you can't knock either one. Jon Levin is that way with dokken (though he cops a great Lynch). Lightning Strikes again was a great album and the song Empire off Broken bones is great its what dokken should be. The extended guitar solo in empire reminds me of Tooth and Nail.

Don's voice is totally shot. I agree. Its why I'm not super excited to see a Dokken reunion. I like Levin and lynch and pilson, and mic, but Don can't sing very well. I'd be more excited to see the original Dokken members (With Don doing backing vocals and song writing), Jon playing alongside Lynch and London LeGrand or Oni singing lead. That's would be something. A new album with Jon and George trading off solo's would kick major ass!

One of those original Dokken members lives around the corner from me and one of his closest friends is a close friend and neighbor of mine. He needs the money. His other gig does fewer and fewer shows every year and, AFAIK, he has no other source of income. He had to move in with his parents a while back when the IRS came after what he had left. His apt. now looks like the one I had right after college. If I were in his shoes, I'd jump on a serious gig offer like a hobo on a ham sandwich.
It has to be a pre-'81 member...none of the guys in the classic lineup are having any significant financial troubles.

For the record, I never said Mick isn't Rock solid, he doesn't play with a rock grip half the time so you know he has put time on his craft. I just do not like his rhythmic groove in rock and find his beats and fills cheesy. Some guys just have it, others do the job, some just have a diff idea of what to play on a beat. Tommy Lee and Steven Adler are two guys that played for the song, Mick for me just was always off the mark. Then again maybe it is because dokken tunes are cheesy as fuck... That could be it. Love lynch's laying too but really feel he grew Into his own with Lynch MOb. Nice greasy dirty rock blues type stuff.

When George brought his line of guitars out, recently… I knew he was in trouble for cash… He's a good soul, I have talked to him a few times and look into his eyes, he's a good man…
The only one that made money, or at least 'most' of the money, was Don…
Maybe the other guys saved their money more, but George has a big nut to crack with kids and the ex-wife
I think George is doing just fine financially. I met him a few times also and he could not be any cooler or nicer.

I dealt with him personally over the course of a few months. At first, he seemed easy going, down to earth. After that, I resolved to never purchase anything of his, doing any business with him, or go to any shows he was involved in. Very dishonest and ungrateful. Afterwards, a friend who knows some of the band members he's had that have negative expletives to share about him. It is sad to see this happen to those we have been fans of or as some people may consider their "guitar hero". Keep in mind these guys have more equipment than most of us here and get $3-4+k guitars thrown their way from time to time.
Mick played briefly with Ronnie Montrose, but Ronnie could not afford Mick so Mick hooked Ronnie up with Miick's brother who plays drums in a style very similar to Mick.
^ True. Mick's brother shared a similar story with me.

I know that Don will never be this good again. I kind of forgot just how good of a live band Dokken was in their prime with everybody at the top of there game.

They really were a great band back in the day. Still love those albums and they stay in the rotation without fail. IMO Beast From The East doesn't get it's due for how epic of a live metal album it really is. There's some real magic on that album. Just phenominal performances by all(George was on fire, amazing playing and tones). George will always be one of my fav. players/biggest influences.

What's wrong with Don's voice, and why won't it ever be good again?

His voice is getting stronger since the vocal surgery and the cancer treatments, but his voice will never sound like it did back in the day. He could do the falsetto rock screams all day long back then. Don is the first to admit that his voice is different now that he is in his 60's. I was there when Dokken recorded the Live From the Sun concert in 1999 and his voice was pretty good then. His voice was as good as ever with all kinds of power when I saw him do a one off show at the Galaxy Theater in Anaheim in 2003. I think he quit smoking for the tour with the Scorpions and Whitesnake the same year and his voice was top notch. He started smoking during the Galaxy gig and I knew it would not last.

This clip is recent. Don sounds good enough here.

Let the haters hate, I think he sounds great here and so does the band.

I'm a Jeff Pilson fanboi now after seeing hearing his work on the "Last In Line" band's album. The sound quality was superb and he was an awesome producer. He just has so much energy and drive.

I remember when I was in high school back in the 80's, we were talking about the Dokken drama and couldn't understand how a band so successful can't pull together for the fans.

Yup, I agree completely. Beast From The East was one of the first CD's I bought when I started switching over to CD's. George is incredible throughout every song on the record.
