Hey,

I just powered up my Mesa Dual Rectifer(2010), and there was a flash of white light coming from the rear. I have not tried to turn it on again to see if it happens again... My power tubes are all brand new (10+ hours on them)

Have anyone experienced the same? Rectifier tube problem? Can I still play? Will it sound the same?

Thanks!

Unplug.
Check fuses. Replace if needed.
Replace power tubes.
Plug in.
Power up.
Check for smoke.
Jam.

  Solid advice right there - once you let the smoke out, electronics fail to work properly

Same thing happened on my newer multi-watt recto. Bright flash from the back of the amp when turning the standby switch to the on position.

I tracked it down to one of the rectifier tubes. I just pulled both of them and left them out, as I'm using diode rectifiers most of the time anyhow (and it won't hurt to not have them there).

Hey! Thank you for your replies!

Well, i could not see or smell any smoke. Ive been told that it might be a tube problem, and i`ve just ordered 2 x rectifier tubes.
Anyways, i could not resist trying it out and found that the amp behaved normally and sounded exactly the same!

The power tubes was recently replaced. I still have the old ones, and i might put them back just to check if this might cure the flashy behaviour.

MrHotRod; I have a multi watt too! IMO a great amp, and have never had any problems with it before.

FWIW, I don't think it is a rectifier tube. Put your old quad in there, leave the other tubes. Make sure you are set right on the Wreck with the 6L6 or 34, whatever the case may be.

Did you inspect the tubes yet? If one flashed, you will certainly have some indication of which tube it was by the dark stained glass.

Are there any children in the room when this happens?

Hey Steve,

No stained glass or any indication of "flames". I will power it up again tomorrow and report back.
Thanks!

had a rectifier tube burn up on me just like that. it took the main fuse with it too. replaced the rectifier tube (5ugb or whatever it is) and the fuse and I was back in business

I powered the recto up today, and there was no flash at all. Played it and everything sounds normal... hope it stays that way ;)

thanks for your time, guys!
