I prefer the Duncan Distortion. I used the Dimarzio Super Distortion for years and on a whim tried the Duncan. I much preferred the feel of the Duncan. I like the way it reacted to my playing better. I think the Dimarzio was a bit blocky and cold - the Duncan seemed very natural and goes along with my playing and there's no fighing it as much with the Dimarzio.

Darren you could make a shoelace tied to a broomstick sound good..just slap a pickup on it and you'd be set lol

Keen to hear what people have to say about these :)

Duncan Distortion man here :thumbsup:

I have one in most of my guitars, love it!! :rock:

Never tried the dimarzio dist, keen to hear more though.

Im sure the Dimarzio Dist is good.

But... whats everyones problem with Dimarzio? Thats the general consensus right? no one likes them that much?

Only ones i have played were not that good (for me) but i didn't get to try this one out (Dimarzio)

I perfer Duncan's, the Dimarzio"s seem harsh. I know that this is subjective but there is just some frequencies that I can't EQ out with the Dimarzio's

They are really two very different animals IMO. I find the Duncan to be a smoother, more full sounding pickup with a lot of power and decent dynamics. The Dimarzio has a more biting, "in-your-face" aggressiveness that continues to make it popular to this day...nearly 40 years after it was first released.

In a word:
Duncan = "bigger"
Dimarzio = "bolder"

Exactly! :rock:

Duncan Distortion for sure. It has a more organic/smoother quality than the SD and I agree that the SD can sound cold. I do have a mint conditon F-spaced SD laying around.
