yesterday my band was playing out of town and had some time to burn; so we went to gc and sam ash(neither are in the town i live in). both stores had a couple used 5150/6505's, so i grabbed a jackson off the shelf that was similar to my old charvel, but had a jb/sh-4 in the bridge instead of the blackout and the emg's i have in my other guits.
i also grabbed a similar guitar with emg's and was able to do direct comparisons between the two, and really liked the jb through the 5150.
it sounded fatter in the mids, and the top end was pretty smooth and did not sizzle as much as the emg's. mind you this was in a store, and not through my actual rig.
does anyone use the jb/sh-4 with their 5150, and like them better than emg's for full out brootz? why?
i did NOT like the duncan distortion through my amp, it sounded kind of hollow to me, but i'm really thinking about the jb now.
any opinions???????????
