So the engl e670 sefe.

1. Modern/classic switch. Besides clean channel. Anyone ever find classic usable?

Or maybe its a volume issue. I have my favorite settings so when I play loud Im not thinking of pressing the blanket button.

2. We have a series effects loop. Then fx loop 1 and fx loop 2.

Anyone have any idea why?

I assume to have two effects chains to switch between. But then why not two series?

The other bells and whistles are great in my book and cant help but think im missing something. But that being said, ive never been 100% in love with every feature on gear so maybe its just one of those things.

i have always wondered about those type of buttons: it seems like it drastically changes the sound that you must use eq it to totally different settings to balance between them. Maybe with eq settings in a programmable fx unit?
Yeah, it seems the extra loops may not be for everyone with eleventy billion pedals. I don't see the point of the tube driver as well, but that's just my op. But it seems they wanted that amp to include the kitchen sink.

I love my Engl heads but some of the buttons are bs . Never wanna ever touch them . Well like most of them
Idk about this amp but I know neviphahisr used it and their time is really good
Blanket button blows bad on mine when dying loud too . Maybe fur recording quietly

The modern vintage feature. Besides clean channel idk. Clean channel you don't have to really mess with eq. Everything else you are right. its like a mesa rectifier orange channel set to vintage. Except I cant find the tiny window that presence and everything work as at.

There is midi and/or z9 channel i dont think loop but I know squat.

Thanks on the loop. Ill write their help desk.

see the remaining bells and whistles are exactly why I got it.

1. 4 channels all solid. Tube driver 5th channel was a selling point for me. My Lichtlaerm audio prometheus has defeat switch in the front too (maker notes engl e670 as inspiration). Its convenient. And engl specifically huge headroom pedal friendly channel.

2. Parallel and series loop choice ironically.
3. I bought while having concerns about noisegate. Luckily it was just the videos I watched. Gate is great.

Being fans of the metal genre and very active hobbyists. One must have at least 1 engl. Its the eu dual recto

If its an extra noise suppressor, I will be shocked.

I use a boss ns 2 mixed with the amps gate
I use lichtlaerm audio key in gate in the front.

Sorry im gonna assume wording was poor on my end. Been sick and working alot the past month. My mind is finally going this week.

Anywho

I would be shocked with engl for not addressing sooner. Below is there manual. Idr what influencers would have said. At the time I was watching eytschpi42 (guys name is hennely). I vaguely remember him and others giving a description of a nfb switch without saying nfb switch.

Modern/Classic switch
This sound-shaping feature voices the basic tonal character of the four channels Clean, Crunch, Lead I and
Lead II. You can choose between a more contemporary sound (Modern) or vintage-approved (Classic) tone.
The red LED above the push button lights up to indicate that the Classic mode is activated.
» This feature can be controlled via MIDI (MIDI program change and/or control change CC#15).
» This feature can be controlled by the Z9 footswitch (optional available accessory) via the Serial Amp Control (S.A.C.) Port.

Necrphagist? Yeah, really good sounds, and playing, of course. I think they used an older model, I forget which one.... the "straight"? Yeah, when I heard Ola's demo of this, I could hear the drastic differences with the switches, either requiring eq or bust.

LOL, I guess this is exactly why no manufacturer can please everyone. Everyone will have at least slightly differing tastes. You know what they say, variety is the spice of life.

100% . Thats why I asked on here and have been racking my noodle.i

Its negative feedback. For loud playing. I am not super knowledgeable but. Usually if builder added this. Its a variable nfb knob or ksr othos that has 6 seeing variable changes to nfb and other parameters. Mesa rectifiers idk exact situation. Nfb loop is in preamp or somewhere different or nfb is super low in red.

I dont know other effects and impacts like why the mesa is the way it is. Generally though. A knob all the way to the left is high nfb. The sound is more open. Smoother. Squischier. Rounder. All the way to the right. Low nfb. More clinical. Opportunity to be aggressive. Clunk+ Kerrang. Tightened.

Then we have the engl. Its not a variable
Switch. Its modern or its classjc

Necrophagist and (early) Obscura are the sole reasons I want an ENGL.

I'm not sure if Muenzner still plays them, I believe Fountain head does, last I checked, but he could be onto something else.

I never use the Modern/Classic button on my SEFE (6L6)
Always running in Modern Mode.

That button reminds me of the Rough/Smooth on the Savage Mk2.
It's a useless button as well. Same with the Pre-Shape.
Not sure why they have these on their amps.

With newer Engl amps (I own 4: P-Ball 2, Invader 2, Savage MK2, SEFE) I run all the buttons except the useless one.
Engls need the main buttons ON to cut thru in a mix.

I found this, seems pretty cool:

good to know

I saw that too. By time I'm in a place in my life to afford and justify that, it'll be long extinct. But it is cool; and in 20 years I'm sure the CS could produce something similar if I wanted.

I really wish Engl would do a lunchbox Savage.
