I made a post last week about picking up a One Control 5 loop programable switcher. They're made by a Japanese company but also sold in the US. They're a bit more expensive in the US, but I still think they're reasonable for what they do. They're about $200 here and $350 in the US
* 5 loops in front of a single channel amp. Theres in interrupt loop between loops 4 and 5 that allows you to do the 4 cable method without chewing up one of the 5 loops
* 4 loops in front of the amp, 1 loop in the amps fx loop
* You can sacrifice poop 5 out to switch you amp channels if you are using a TS 1/4' foot switch. The caveat here is that the interrupt between 4 and 5 has nothing to feed since you are repurposed 5 for a channel switcher. I have found that I can still do the 4CM, but I have to use another loop for the interrupt. This leaves you with 3 programable loops plus the ability to change amps channels. No problem, it's worth it to be able to switch you amp and toggle loops when you switch between high gain and clean.
Loop 1 to Drive Pedals
Loop 2 to Ampero for modulation, etc
Loop 3 Interrupt (goes to front of amp and comes from FX send of amp) **This stays on for all programs**
Loop 4 to Ampero for Time based FX, EQ, etc
Loop 5 (on=gain channel off=clean channel)
For example. I can designate:
Program 1 to be clean channel of amp, loop 2 for chorus, and loop 4 for delay and reverb.
Program 2 to engage the gain channel of the amp, turn off loop 2 for chorus.
Program 3 to engage the gain channel of the amp, and turn on loop one to boost the gain channel.
This is exactly what needed for uncoordinated people like me with big shoes that don't want to tap dance on 2-4 pedals to change a patch. Just 1 switch is all that I have to hit.
I also had a 1 loop switch and an A/B switch so that I can have everything cabled to both my modded Marshall and my Twin Reverb. I just have to hit both of those switches and everything is now send to the Fender, because I'm essentially breaking the 4CM interrupt and putting everything in serial so that it just goes to the front of the Fender.
Lastly, I love the mute button since I swap guitars quite a bit. This simultaneously sends signal to the tuner, keeping the tuner completely out of path
