EASstudios IR’s: my new favorite Mesa IR’s

This gets me even more excited to check these out. I haven’t heard of anybody offering compensated IRs, which will handy with my Badlander. It sounds quite different using its onboard Cab Clone, which I think is just a Torpedo load. I can use the DI out without a cab and get one sound, then plug the cab in and out of the same DI without touching anything is has a much more full and natural tone. So these compensated IRs might be a bit of a missing link that nobody else seems to address.

I'm sure it will help, but as yet I haven't made ones compensated for Two Notes loads. They don't have the same resonant low end bump of a 4x12, and I do find them a little dark/muffled compared to real loads, so the compensation curves would likely be more heavy handed than for the loads with a more accurate curve. I'm curious to try, but I think for those kind of loads, it probably needs a more dynamic relationship with the power amp for the low end to feel right. I think EQ will help a bit but it can only do so much.

If its possible, I'd recommend using a cab load and taking the line out (as you are), and then possibly using the compensated IR's to account for your cab being a fixed load (if using IR's that are from a different cab to what you are using). With that said, you have the benefit of having a couple of different options, so you can choose which ever response works best for any given tone, perhaps sometimes the Two Notes load will give a response you like better.

One other option is to use something like Two Notes own IR loader that has some power amp behaviour parameters (I think they call it Z). That could introduce some of the resonant behaviours that arent present in their load.

Happy to try and help as much as possible if you have any questions!

Yea gonna continue to spam these hard….EAS killed it with all of these… man… absolutely stellar.

I literally have no need for any other IR’s. Seriously, these are so good to me personally.

Marshall BV cab: rev F again…. This is nuts. The clarity, the low end, everything.

killer...I did my first recording today with reaper using stl amphub...it sounded like hammered shit...maybe I should read the reaper instruction guide.

Aw man... I keep saying I am done buying more IRs... with that said @easstudios which packs to you recommend for a Friedman Butterslax, a Dirty Shirley, an Uberschall and an Ultralead? Also which loadbox do you recommend using with your IR's, I got a PS-100, Suhr RL and a WAZA TAE, thanks!

You’ll get there man, just takes time. You’ll get extremely frustrated everyday for a long time, just prepare for that!

Try the PS-100 for sure, I believe ed just got one and loves it with his IR’s.

Honestly I hope he releases all of his IR’s to the public soon. His 2002 OS Mesa pack has arguably the best sounding Mesa V30 I’ve ever heard in it. It is unreal sounding to me.

Little clip with my Diezel Herbert and that cab, single sm57. Pretty incredible sounding. This is like literally no eq, a few little cuts in the 2-3k range, high and low pass and that’s it… incredible

Suhr is a great shout, as is PS-100. I have Suhr compensated IR’s for most of them, I also use a PS-2A a lot so have tested that and it works great with these.

I’ve never used the Boss TAE but I’d imagine it has enough options to sound great too. Maybe the impedance curve presets would be a good starting point to use the clean IR’s.

I’d say the Mesa 03 and 05 may be cool to start with, for those amps. The 01 Mesa has that smoother top end which I sometimes find a bit too much with Friedmans. They can still sound great but maybe you’d use more presence or mic a little closer to the centre with the 01. The Workhorse and RENGOB packs are solid all-rounders too, I think they’d be a solid choice across the board.

Nice one, good luck with these - sounds like a lot of work went into them.

Not claiming to be a great mind but for the sake of a phrase, great minds think alike! A while ago I also starting making compensated IR's - probably in a different way but seemingly with the same goal.

Even though there's a lot of good loads about we ended up making our own based on the Aiken design (as Suhr did). It's not perfect, no load is, but it's on par with the Suhr and a few other good ones. Where it deviates from the actual cab in question, the corresponding IR has an inverse EQ applied to it get it more accurate. Pretty cool, and although sometimes subtle it can really help pull authentic and diverse tones.

For example our load is built to recreate the curve of our favourite Marshall 4x12. If I'm using the load for some demo recording and need say a Voxy tone, our 'Alnico blue in a 2x12' IR compensates for the loads impedance curve being based off the 4x12.

And this is why all the girls crowd around me at parties.

Nice! This is exactly the concept with mine. I think it’s a reasonable workaround if you know the amplifier/load/cabs involved and it can bridge that gap.

I’d really love to have a load box with adjustable curves in it. I’m guessing it’s a bit cost and size prohibitive to do, but something that could adjust the load and corresponding IR’s at the same time would be great. The Fryette being able to accept various impedances is also so handy, and something I wish they all had

Awesome. Can't wait to try these... had to grab the greenbacks too ?

@eaststudios These sound very nice! Am I correct in understanding that you have other IR packs that are not available on your site? If that is the case, when will they be available and what are they?

Thanks!

Thank you!

There is another pack coming hopefully soon, last I heard the website was ready to relaunch after a big redesign. That pack will be sold through a friend's company. There's a couple more Mesa cabs, a 1960BV, 1960TV with G12m25's, EVH, Creamback 65's, Orange PPC412's etc.

Its taken a little longer than I expected, and in the meantime I started the Mirror Profiles website and products. If anyone is curious about these other ones, PM me for more information :) They're made in exactly the same way as the ones on Mirror Profiles, just different cabs and speakers to pick from. Both collections are pretty evenly rounded

I’ll say it again, the 2002 Mesa OS EAS has coming is arguably the best sounding cab I’ve ever heard in IR form, especially the bottom left speaker. It’s a magical one for sure. Sorry if you get flooded with PM’s. @easstudios for this cab, but it is flat out bonkers.

Seriously I haven’t found a dud yet in these. Every pack I have now is just flat out killer, just fantastic sounding. And I personally love how minuscule the differences are between the IR’s, because it gives you the feel and sound of slightly changing mic positions, so people can get a real idea of what that is like and honing in on their favorite tones for their project if they have never mic’d up a cab before.
