Thanks glpg80 and Ventura for the info about the G major 2... I need to think twice. So the chorus on it is shitty and there is some tone sucking while it is in an FX loop? How do its delays compare with those of a timefactor, for example? Thanks a lot

also, were you guys talking about the G major 1 or 2? thanks

I believe the issues that were present in the 1st rendition were addressed, but the 2nd rendition now has its own inherent problems, newer ones.

Without sounding like a snob or a know-it-all, the TC Major 2 "to me" is trying to be the Eventide Eclipse at a fraction tha cost. It's this 'fraction of the cost' that makes manufacturers have to cut corners. The chassis looks great, the interface is nice, it seems to have all the bells and whistles, and hey, maybe MOST people who buy one aren't as tone-focused and fucntionality focused as the rest... But it's when you start getting IN to a product that you start to realize its limitations. I think test driving the TC2 at any music shop would probably reveal a nice piece of equipment... It's only once you get it home, plug it in, start working it hard that you'd see chinks in its armour.

Just a guess...

they still did not address the delay issue in the MIDI commands if you use anything with modulation (phaser, wah, etc) - you wont get a delay problem using any other combination of the effects.

the GM2 is actually as powerful as the new G-system, the g-major 2 has newer and better AD/DA converters than the tc-g-force that goes for double the price.

how do the g major 2 and timefactor compare for delay quality? (used in the loop)

thanks

No contest...

Eventide slams the competition, but that's just me...YMMV.

not a big fan of eventide delays or effects. they sound too perfect - thin, shrill, lifeless, and i have no use for the sparkly effects ala steve vai.

i prefer TC effects. but im the minority here. thats my tastes and what i prefer. not trying to push it on anyone else. i suggest the OP try out the suggested products before making a logical decision.

With price -- not-- being a factor

FTW

These are NOT cold or sterile etc... They are TOP shelf, and are indeed-- OVER KILL, which is my favorite feature about them. I've had one for 5 years now, and LOVE it!!!!

sound cold and sterile to me, each to their own though. you know how i stand with eventide products zach - we've had this conversation once before

BTW hope all is well on your side of the pond with the health and such

I'll take that "cold and sterile" horribleness any day of the week over dark, muffled, hissy, pingy, scratchy, or choppy feel and functionality

Battle of the subjective, there is NO right or wrong, just preference...

PEACE!!

Thanks... I have surgery on the 23rd (abdominal hernia), and am NOT looking forward to that-- at all.

I have found that ANYTHING can be made to sound less than stellar. When I plug the guitar straight in to the Eventide H8000FW for example, and go into the front of an amp (Yes, I tried it, because I am generally curious like that)-- THAT is NOT how to, imo-- get them sounding their best. That being said, there are GIANT worlds of differences between the pedals and the H8000FW-- actually between EVERYTHING out there and the Biggest of the Eventide line.

That being said, I have the other stuff I do because of the differences they bring to the table too.

To the OP-- The Fractal Audio Axe-FX Ultra would be my second vote. Re: the amp models-- I would rather have more and not need it, than to need more and not have it, especially since you aren't required to use the amp models.

Sup V,

The preferences do determine the Right/Wrong/Best... ie My rig is the BEST (For me), that I've found. I am not left wanting...

Like the Axe-FX, only with some options the Axe doesn't have, you have to know how to engineer/program these things to get them to do EXACTLY what you want them to do. They are VERY VERY deep and if plug and play is what one has in mind, one could easily be left bewildered, and frustrated.

I'm old school. I'd rather have a 2290/1210 or PCM70 or SPX 90, or some old Roland stuff. They color the sound, but in a way I like. Maybe because that's what I grew up with with.

Not sure why no one ever mentions the new Lexicon PCMs for fx only stuff? Much more musical then the Axe IMO. Same $, one less rack space.

I'd love to have the 8000 but that's a lot of cabbage.

The main reason I didn't mention the PCM in this case, is because of the lag time they have- which presents a problem for me as a stand alone unit.

I do agree 100% percent about loving the particular character the 2290, 1210, SPX, PCM etc... bring to the party.

Ya, sucks about how expensive the H8000 is... Definitely. The sonic goodness eases the pain though.

Find a Rocktron Intelifex or Replifex on e-bay. ($150.00-$200.00 bucks) and call it a deal! Either of these units will give you every thing you need.

For me the Axe didn't do much in terms of effects. They are great to edit, sound super stellar and all, but they lacked character in my opinion. No 2290 like sound I could get out of it (and I used an Ultra for 2 years and was very active also in the forum).

It depends on what you want. A rig with a lexicon verb and a TC 2290 or Lexicon PCM42 will give you more character and warmth than an Axe IMO.

I second the reco for the Intellifex, too. It's a great unit for the price.

For delays, I love my Korg DL8000R, so amazing. A pita to program, but great sounds.

Even a Line6 M9 or M13 might do the trick for you with the AFD100.

So say I get an effects unit like the G Major. What frigging footpedals do I get to switch the effects? Damnit.
