Here is a pretty good representation of what the Egnater EG5 sounds like when I play it with my EBMM Morse. I’m happy with these tones for the situation. I tracked this in the process of writing a new tune today, but where the parts came to me out of order. The first section I tracked was the mixed meter verse beginning at :19 and it sounds a little darker than the rest for two reasons. I had another cab pummeling me in the control room, so it put more load on the power amp. Also, the presence and treble were too low. It actually sounds ok with the vocal that’s happening over the top.

I automated the doubled guitar off and on with each section so you can hear how they sound solo’d and doubled. By the way, the tune is called “Snuff Flick” and that might explain part of the pilot voice. I muted the rest of my vocals to spare you all.

i always love your clips man.

i will go out on a limb and say if you were to maybe explore other guitar and pickup combinations you may be pleasantly surprised.

i'd love to hear that tone with you playing a PAF les paul, and your EJ tone with a fender ej strat, for instance.

Thanks, mentoneman. I totally know exactly what you are saying. I'm actually going to try some new guitars/pu's next week at Tyler. The EBMM Morse has become my primary axe over the years - so much that I just gradually sold my other solidbodies. It is just physically THE guitar for me - the neck is insane, but no one guitar can do it all. I have gone through many other pickup options, and I come back to the Morse humbuckers which are sort of like a tamer PAF I believe. Also, I've put Area 58/61s in for the singles, but the guitar just has its own sound.

Very cool. The EG5 is a flamethrower, I gigged with one a few times in one of my RM setups and never had the gain past noon, and I'm addicted to gain!

Yeah, the EG5 and Morse are a nice combination for me, the Morse makes it more safe and manageable than guitars with super high gain pickups. High gain pickups and the EG5 together are like alcohol and firearms.

Thanks, nbarts.

Roger that, mentoneman. ;)
