EMG 81 typically mid scooped and dark?

Well, I've decided I'm gonna take it in for a set-up and get the 18 volt mod. Will also get them to check all the wiring etc... Maybe there's some shitty soldering in there. New strings should help too. The strings the guitar came with kinda suck. I think they are 10-46 and I'm going with an 11-56 set for drop C.
 
As the main priority I would get new power tubes. 7+ years is very old, and it should sound a lot better after putting a fresh set in and getting them biased. Preamp tubes tend to last much longer, but a new set of power tubes will certainly improve it if the amp has been used much in the past 7 years. I usually change power tubes yearly for a regularly played amp.
 
not a fan of the 81. it's ok, but i have a 60 in the neck and that's where I spend most of my time.
