EQ in loop to alter tone?

I'm thinking of getting an Empress ParaEQ to use in the loop of my Splawn QuickRod 100. What I wanna know is how much it can alter the tone? Can I make it sound more polished/record ready like a Bogner or Friedman?

Yes. The Emperor is polished/processed sounding compared to something like an MXR 10 band graphic, TC1140, Perfect Ten. So if that's your goal the Emperor might be what you want. I MUCH prefer the other EQs I mentioned and couldn't be without them. Takes any amp to new heights and the most crucial piece of gear I use.

I would probably just get a MXR 10 band or Boss 7 band if you are not used to using parametric EQs. However, yes, an EQ is a great tool to have. I rarely play any amp without an EQ in the loop.

It can drastically alter the tone My opinion is that you are using the wrong amp if you need any post-gain EQ. Take any EQ and set it flat in the loop and see if it negatively impacts your tone at all……..they all do to my ears.

I can understand someone trying to “fix” an amp with an EQ……or maybe trying to match a tone that the amp wasn’t intended to cop to begin with. I personally hate post-gain EQ. In front is a different story.

Serious post, if I could only have two pedals on my board, I’d have two EQ’s, one in front of the amp to shape / boost the guitar, and one in the loop to shape the overall EQ curve of the amp itself beyond what most amps' tonestsacks can do.

EQ’s are just about the most capable tone shaping tools there are and they can make all the difference between an ok tone and a truly inspiring one.

i agree

The cheaper the EQ, the noisier it is. Esp in a loop in my limited experience. That's why I was holding out hope that @griff10672 was gonna do that fancy one he teased...

Yes you can, It's a good Eq and the noise floor is low which is good in the loop. Some of the cheaper graphics have a sound but in the loop maybe too much hiss and THD. You can make it a ton more polished, Scooped or whatever you want.

Yeah i had an MXR EQ 10 Band and didn't last long. Maybe I need to try something else.

Mxr 10 is a prerequisite for me..

Well isn’t that a treat! Please set one aside for this fellow New Englander?

Timmy next???
of course ..... as long as it works ....I ordered the parts and enclosures to do two of them ..... I'll keep one as my prototype ... you can have dibs on the other .... if people want to order one after those two .... it will be the usual 3 weeks ( give a take a few days )
