Need a good eq pedal for cleans. So I'm doing a top 40 gig and it kind of goes between rock and funk. Using a modded Marshall with a clean channel. The cleans are nice but for the funky stuff I need to scoop out mids and boost some top. Looking for a pedal, boss size that runs off 9v adaptor. Something that sounds good and is sturdy.

I used a boss ge7 for yeara with no problems.
Recently picked up a mxr 10 band and the difference was noticeable. In a good way.

Might sound weird but. . . Try a parallel compressor in the loop. I use a barber tone press. Works amazing for funk stuff. If you don't have a serial loop disregard my comment and throw a eq out front.

I use an HBE Paul Gilbert Detox. Great f-in pedal!

MXR 6 band EQ is great pedal for scooping or mid bumps imho .

no level on the MXR 6 band - which always bums me out

I used to have a boss ge7. It was rather noisy until i did the monte allums mod. Great pedal after that.

The new whirlwind EQ looks nice, but is pricey. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ ... MgodySIArQ

I use the danelectro fish and chips eq, sounds great and has been reliable for me. I don't use an eq much, so its nice to not have much money tied up in one.
This is my eq pedal. Haven't scooped anything though...always mid boost everything. More transparent to me than boss or mxr.

I have a new MXR 6 band EQ with the illuminated lights on the bands. Works great for tone shaping in the loop or boosting in front. I find the 6 band's strong point is boosting though, as most of the frequencies are in the mids. Sounds better than the 10 band to me cause it has those 400, 800, 1.6k and 3.2k sliders... that's all in the low to high mids.

My GE7 is insanely noisey, I'll have to get that mod done. Did it change the character of the tone at all?

Part of the mod only got rid of the noise. I did that first snd really liked it. The other part fattened the tone, and i didnt like that. I was using it more as a clean boost and ended up getting a rc booster, which is a little more transparent.

Check out the Source Audio Programmable EQ. Sounds great and gives you some added versatility with the option to have presets.

I was actually asking because I don't want it to mess with the tone at all. Guess I'll see if Monte will just do that.

Def this! Ive had all the eq pedals and the source audio is by far the best! Excellent value for money. Check it out

Not Boss size, but I would make room for a parametric EQ - either an Empress or Fromel

I'd vote for a GE7- if you're not boosting I don't think it should be too noisy, but the Allum's or Sniper mod definitely helps in that regard.

That Source Audio looks interesting

Those MXR pedals are great! I really like how my Mesa's EQs cut and boost specific frequencies. They're pricey, but try out Mesa's new EQ pedals. I haven't yet, but Mesa makes some rugged gear, and the the frequencies the sliders address are great. You can dial in (or cut out) some thick low end, have a snappy treble response, and the mids will either warm up your sound, or can make it completely scooped.

Just make sure to run it in the FX Loop (if you have one).
