I have a new MXR 6 band EQ with the illuminated lights on the bands. Works great for tone shaping in the loop or boosting in front. I find the 6 band's strong point is boosting though, as most of the frequencies are in the mids. Sounds better than the 10 band to me cause it has those 400, 800, 1.6k and 3.2k sliders... that's all in the low to high mids.

I agree , that 800 frequency on the MXR 6 band is very important if you want that midrange bark .
A lot of other EQ pedals seems to not have that frequency for some reason .

Check out the Source Audio Programmable EQ. Sounds great and gives you some added versatility with the option to have presets.

Def this! Ive had all the eq pedals and the source audio is by far the best! Excellent value for money. Check it out

If I'm not mistaken this unit has AD and DA conversion going on. I have one, very useful but it did make my sound a bit more digital sounding. I no longer use it but functionally its a decent unit and good idea. I think the MXR 10 band is about the best I've tried.

Definitely agree with this. I have never bought the MXR 10-band because of this. I dont know why so many of these EQs go 500, then 1000, then 2000. I MUCH prefer the frequencies on the Boss because they go 400, 800, 1600. Much better for dialing in mids.

If you are good at soldering you could build the BYOC Parametric EQ. It is one of the most interesting looking EQs to me, and you can dial in the frequencies how you want.

Yep , so true.
I had the 10 band MXR EQ and I got rid of it because it jump from 500k to 1k in the midrange , I was like WTF ...
No matter what I did I couldn't dial in the midrange bark , it was either to low or to high of a frequency.

Ive tried them all and the MXR 6 band EQ in my opinion is the best......

If you can find on, get the Boss GE 10 eq, it's cleaner than the new MXR 10 band eq.A parametric guitar might be more accurate to boost a specific frequencies.

Another vote for the Danelectro Fish 'n' chips. Got one for Christmas. Such a cheap pedal it's pretty transparent when off, pretty quiet, and seems pretty well made. Did I mention it is cheap. Only complaint is the tiny button switch

The Gilbert detox seems like the best choice if you don't have a channel switcher like an 800 and you want to go mean to clean. I think Paul mixes in some compression for his cleans though. My GE-7 isn't that noisy and i really dig it for that 80's mid bark. It can fill out your cleans too. If you aren't pushing the gain, i am sure it would be fine with a noise gate on a clean channel. What I think you should do is gig your JMP/2203 with a detox pedal. Bam, that's the goods right there!

Up front? I think the Empress ParaEq would work. True bypass and blends nicely. Running it at 9 volts is good, even better at 18v.

An always on, in the loop eq for boosting frequencies, got to go with the Whirlwind Perfect 10.

I have 2 Boss GE7's One with Sniper mod out front and one stock in the effect loop. My Stock one is quiet and I can't hear a difference between them.
