Hey dude’s!!
I remember way back when Eric Johnson popped up.
I was at a strange place as a budding guitar player.
Hardest part being, finding cool dude’s to play the right original music with.
We’ll, I remember watching the SRV Austin City Limits concert..the one where in the song
Tightrope, he openly yells at himself before taking that scorching lead..THAT! Had me take the blues much more seriously…well then this dude pops
up with the High School marching band jacket.
Tbh, I thought it was a complimentary Ferrari coat or f’n somethin’, too colonial for Jimi.
For me, this guy is..I hear a lot of sincerity in his music..,
-though it can sound like Muzak much of the time,

I went to the G3 & he was one of the G3’s.
Unfortunately, like Satch & Yngwie, by the 3rd song of each player, I was totally over it.
So wtf is my damn point then?
I really dig the “sincerity” is this performance.
You can hear hear it.
You can hear the nostalgia coming through,
as he remembers life in the marching band wearing the Ferrari coat.

Man did Stevie know how to throw some stank on it. :worship:

The intro on that version of Dover has some cool moments and you have to be nuts to sport that jacket.

The live in Austin set is what got me into EJ. The dude crushes it live, so much better than the over produced records that he put out in the 80's/90's. Don't get me wrong, I love the songs, but he's a live player.

I've seen both players.
I only saw Stevie once in 88 at the gorge in George Washington.
As far as blues go Stevie was on top IMHO
Yes there are and we're other greats Gary Moore being one and of coarse Hendrix.
Stevie played with such passion and fire !
He opened for Robert Cray, it was a yawn fest after Stevie for sure.
I've seen E.J. 3 or 4 times he is always solid .

I saw Frampton at the Gorge many years ago. Great place to see a show. ??

I like EJ and SRV. But I wouldn’t listen or worry bout what he says about tone. More of a listener to me

Man SRV totally ripped. I know it wasn't harmonic minor or arpeggios but he was so damn good and the total package. So aggressive too. Sounds like a fuzz in this clip? Was he also using a fuzz face on/off on his board?
