Damn, he is so smooth. I know that he is playing pentatonics and for a long time when I was younger I slighted him for it. But, about five years ago, I was cleaning the house and doing some work from home listening to Youtube and his Austin City limits show came on. It was back ground music, but I just kept hearing these amazing solos. It was then that I realized that he really plays guitar like a sax player. I've seen him live three times and that is really where he shines IMO. While Ah Via and Venus Isle are great disks, I would take his live recordings any day of the week over those, just to hear him improvise.

It does often sound like sax. I always assumed it was from his piano playing, which IIRC he studied (and became extremely good at) prior to playing guitar.

Amazing player but oddly enough, his noodling and playing here also seems to have gone to shit just like Wylde's has. Looks like these guitars bring out the worst in everyone!
