I just remember all the "meh" from the internets in the early 2000s when people talked about the Norlin guitars. Now they're reissuing them and people are loving them. :ROFLMAO:
My first LP was a late 70s Custom in black. Cost $550 in 1998. Nobody wanted the Norlins. Funny how yesterday's trash is today's treasure.
FWIW, screw this new release, and anything new coming from Gibson.
Love my Gibbys, will never buy new again.

The maple neck for me isn’t about construction, it’s about tone. Most LP’s I’ve tried with a maple neck have a top end I don’t care for.
Plus I don’t think in combination with the ebony board helped.

I said fuck it .... and grabbed the last Buttercream Sweetwater had yesterday ...

Added the Plek setup also ....

Can't wait !!

I thought that Gibson uses the Plek at the factory now. Also, not sure what kind of frets you like, but these are wide and flat.

don't know ..... not worried about the frets at all

Local GC in Phoenix had a buttercream Custom last week. Man, it was awesome. Thin 60s neck and felt pretty light. I'd never spend that much on a guitar, but it was nice.

Only one of mine have that propped up top end you mention but the other two don’t. The red one I shared above is actually a tamed top end guitar. The heft in it mellows it out as does the 498. My 85 Norlin back when they went to mahogany necks just before selling out is also tame. Only my clownburst has that top end attitude. It’s still there even with Duncan winters in it so it’s not the pickups themselves but I totally get what you’re saying - just only one out of three of mine are like that.

If I were to do it again I’d just get an ESP USA Eclipse and call it done. The jumbo stainless frets make a big difference.

Imagine telling someone at Gibson in the 90/00’s that in 20-30 years they would make LP Customs like they did in the 70’s again….and that they would be 4K. Can’t imagine it would be quiet laughing.

The downside is they reissued it as if it’s still the 70’s so they don’t really fit anywhere. Still have to swap pickups, bigger frets, bone nut, etc. Better off saving a bit more and getting a real one to do all of that.

Gibson should make a Flying V custom with the big block inlays and CHROME hardware instead of 650 different versions of the Les Paul imo

The 68 Reissue is 6k. The "normal" swiss cheese weight relieved ones are 5k. Compared to the ESP prices nowadays even that's a bargain. Kinda :D

I moved to California in '83. That year I had 2 opportunities 2 to buy LP Customs for $350 each. One was black, the other was wine red. The black one had a black Mighty Mite humbucker. Sounded killer. In 83 they were giving those guitars away because pointy headstocks reigned supreme at that time. Everyone wanted a Kramer with a Floyd and a Rockman. I'm still kickin' myself for not buying those 2 LP's. LOL
