Alright so I decided to take the plunge and pick up a custom shop ESP. I just got my quote back today and the damage is......$5499. It's basically a neck thru Horizon in snow white, blackouts, tear drop headstock with pearl binding on the neck and head stock. I was really hoping it would be a little cheaper...like 4 grand tops, but holy $hit was I wrong. I'm ordering it from www.gearhounds.com They said anywhere from 12 to 14 months build time. I'm going to put down 50% to get it ordered then pay it off before it ships. I just wanted to know who all here has experience with the custom shop and if this sounds like the same experience you guys have had. Oh and pleeeease post pics of your custom shop guitars, old new, whatever. I'd love to see them. Thanks guys!!

Chris

I'd get a quote from Brad. Why not support our fearless leader?

That sounds like a ridiculous price even for custom shop. Check with Brad he's an ESP dealer, maybe he can get you a better deal.

That is what new ESP Custom Shops go for. It is the yen/dollar relationship. Very unfavorable for US buyers, no matter where you get it. But the quality is off the charts.

@cnote Have you ever played one? What's your experience?

I'm not going to lie, I love my MH1000 and that's an LTD, I can't imagine what their custom shops feel like!! :-)

That is one expensive guitar!!! The ESP Horizons are nice even the production models.

I know!! I was thinking about just buying one of the Standard ones, but I want one in snow white so bad!! They're absolutely gorgeous. Plus I'm getting the pickups white as well. It's going to look sick!! If I was in Japan or England I could get a Standard one in snow white!

ESP make some ridiculously beautiful guitars... But at that sticker price, that's just stoopid. Seriously, you can go local (North American) full custom from tree-trunk to finished product for that price or less.

Not cool.

ESP standard Horizon = $1700 or so.
That's a $3800 paint job man!

Here's a screen shot of my order form so you guys can check it out. I really didn't think it was anything too extravagant.

@Ventura Dude, I know trust me. However the quality of the custom ESP's is crazy insane. I'm all about supporting local national businesses, but I've been dreaming about a custom ESP for so long and I'm starting to get the money together, so I figured why not.....

@Rocknrolla Haha, yes sir it sure is!!

Gotsta do what ya gotsta do. I'm still onboard for a NT-7 but I'm ironing out some wrinkles with B-Rad. Don't want active pups, but not willing to pay custom price either. Just gimme the body without the pups, I'm game.

Do what you feel is right - and ya, I'm happy AND excited for ya man... I love my ESPs, great great players

Peace,
Mo

Why not just buy the standard model from a Japan dealer in White?

Yeah I thought about that too, but if I'm going to spend that much money, I might as well get exactly what I want. With the shipping and taxes and shit it's still going to be crazy expensive.

I owned a few esp made in the custom shop, alot of my esp guitars have been sig models made in the custom shop and they was very nice quality and i liked the tone of most of them.
i think i had 20 or 25 esp that i owned in the last 10 years and i still own 6. the esp custom shop can build great stuff but the prices have become insane in the last 3 years. its gotten to the point that i dont know if i will be buying very many esp anymore, after playing the higher end esp stuff i dont really like the standard series stuff as much, sure they are nice but my custom eclipse was a whole lot nicer feeling and sounding. most of my guitars over the years came from the kiso shop and takada shop.

heres a few pics

custom shop eclipse, neckthru with maple cap and scraped natural binding, not the veneer like the standard series.

i have more pics but this is enough, the main thing when ordering with esp is that there has been many problems with them doing exactly whats on the order forms that come from the usa, there been atleast 10 people i know of who ordered custom guitars and was unhappy because they didnt do the exact guitar the people ordered, my friend who was a dealer had 4 that i know of that didnt turn out right and he made out the order forms and delt directly with matt at esp, do some research on the esp board and you will see what im talking about or ask the guys on the esp board the same questions your asking here and talk to others that have ordered, it wasnt because people made out the order forms wrong, the usa order forms are very different from the forms people get outside of the usa, our order forms are like 1 or 2 page long and overseas forms are 3 and 4 pages. problems such as using alder instead of mahogany, wrong style logo, adding a pick guard to a guitar that wasnt supposed to have one, warped neck, wrong color bindings and even wrong colored guitars.

theres also another dealer i know named nick at piney hills music that ordered a 6 run batch of white V's and they came with the wrong binding on them.
the wait time will indeed be over a year and if they make you a guitar there is a change some of the specs will be wrong, but if they do make it proper i think you will be very happy with the finished product.

Hey Guys,

I am on this for Chris and will get him the best price. I have my connections inside ESP and can get this stuff done. Any ESP custom or Standard hit me up, I have sourced some pretty cool Japan only and custom stuff this year alone.

Thanks,
Brad

I would definately recommend brad as a esp dealer, im sure someday i will get weak and buy another esp and hopefully it will be from brad.
i would like to support our forum dealers, i wished esp would bring back the kh-4, i would love to own another one.
