Ever think of selling your whole rig?

Damn...I really wanna try the Axe FX II. I used to own a standard and ultra, but too much tweaking.

Yup....been there done it.
At least 3 times in 30 years.
Sell it all. Then re-build when ready. In the 90's there was a time where I didnt play for almost 8 years. Just collected guitars. Had a small practice amp. But never really played.
Have a nice stripped down rig now and play every weekend. Love it. But ya....its just gear.
Sell it. ;)

Sold pretty much everything to get an Axe FX II but ended up selling that too... now wish I didn't, but live and learn. I'll just have to pony up the cash for whatever new cool gadget comes out next.

You won't like the II then.

I've gone thru a bunch of rigs for various reasons (mostly needing the money), but these days I've worked really hard to get certain pieces of gear and it would be hard to let go of some on it. When I had to live with roommates I use to rent a room in a commercial space dirt cheap so I could crank up in the evenings without pissing anyone off.

Actually I'm mulling it over right now. Do I need a 50w head? Do I need a 4x12? Do I even need a lunchbox head? I have a lot of interests and when I total up what is just sitting gathering dust it makes my head spin.

I think everyone goes through this once in a while. I got on the Kemper bandwagon last year and had mine for quite some time when I realized that I was missing having an amp again. I would like to get another Kemper at some point but in reality, I have a great setup that works for me right now, sounds better recorded direct than what I got from my Kemper and and isn't too difficult to get around. I picked up the option of a low watt combo if I need to play a smaller gig or for some quieter playing, practicing at home.

In the end, there is nothing wrong with what you have. If you won't be playing live, it doesn't mean that you can't own a nice tube amp. You bought it because you liked how it sounded and the price was right.

If you need the $$$ though, then you have to do what you have to do.

I've gigged everything I own but reality is I don't *need* as many guitars as I have. But for the most part they all do different things and I really like them all. I actually did finally bite the bullet and sold my sl2h this year that never really worked for me, and got a couple nice charvels that I enjoy a lot. Thing is, it's still not a great time to sell unless you need the money; you probably won't get what you deserve. If it's for something like a down payment on a house than sure I could see offing a bunch of my gear to get that $. But if not, it's funny how that money can just disappear and then there you are, not much has changed except you have less gear, lol.

Nope. I got the tone I want, this rig delivers.

I used to regularly change amps and guitars. I found that it was less expensive to buy what I really wanted than to try to save money and continually upgrade in increments.

just did actually!
sometimes you need a change.
now to sell off 3 guitars an amp and a cab!

For sure.....
its not like it cant be replaced. Sell it....re-evaluate your situation....
if need be...buy again the same item.
OR hell....sell to just try something new??

Its just gear. :D

I've thought of selling my stuff...mainly because I stink at playing guitar and have so many other hobbies...I enjoy tinkering around with guitar...but I actually love other things more to be honest

ME!!! Especially lately....had a bunch of crap dealt my way in the last year and havent even picked up a guitar in probably 8-10 months...just a lotta dough sitting in cases in my closet...

I've been thinking about it a lot lately.
My life is really busy right now and I need to dedicate most of my free time to my wife and kids. So the hour or so a day practicing and a 3-4 hour rehearsal every weekend is no more.
I'm not playing out anymore.
A 100 watt head into a 4x12 is not a great rig for wanking around in a basement by yourself.

Ill probly never sell because I use my huge rack WDW rig to compensate for my short stature...

I know there's an amp and guitar there with my name on them. :)

Sell everything? no. A 5150? yeah. But I have a few pieces I could never replace. Even not playing them live it is worth keeping to jam on once in a while. 90% could go, but certain pieces never. My wife's new boyfriend will sell them soon enough at my estate sale.

Sure it is! I'm in the same boat. Three kids at 3 years old and under, with one due early December. I went through these thoughts about selling it, but that opportunity I have once in a while to crank it is so worth it. Too cathartic to say good bye to. Plus I don't have any other hobbies anyway.

Well...Here it is:

Sold my whole rig. Sold my 5153 to a very good friend, and sold my Orange cab this week. Sold most of my pedals. Now I want to sell both my guitars because I found a PRS CU24 I'd like to buy. Using JamUP Pro XT for now, and sounds fabulous. Also bought a POD HD Desktop last night, so I'll be using that for now. Gonna have some cash to pay off bills, and will probably buy a nice rig later on. For now, this seems like the right thing to do.
