Well...Here it is:

Sold my whole rig. Sold my 5153 to a very good friend, and sold my Orange cab this week. Sold most of my pedals. Now I want to sell both my guitars because I found a PRS CU24 I'd like to buy. Using JamUP Pro XT for now, and sounds fabulous. Also bought a POD HD Desktop last night, so I'll be using that for now. Gonna have some cash to pay off bills, and will probably buy a nice rig later on. For now, this seems like the right thing to do.
Nice! I have been there Bro.....if it feels like it works for your life at the moment. Why not?
Couple of other buds have switched over to the Jamup and they love it.
Thats all that matters.

Nice dude....glad JamUp/POD is working out for ya...in the end, what we play thru doesn't matter; just that we rock the fuck out whenever and however we can.

Thinking off offing my Splawn rig. I just dont use it in my current gig. Im not sure I can but I played it at a show this weekend and was wishing I had my 5153.

About 2 years ago I sold everything but my '58 and '57 reissue Les Pauls. My contract at work had ended and I didn't know how long I'd be out for. My cover band also imploded at the same time so I figured the time had come to ditch all the gear.

However, I eventually built a disgustingly huge surplus of gear that I don't need ... and it's way harder to sell stuff now than it was then!

Sell it and get a Kemper or Axe FX II that is if you still play. If not, sell it all!!! I have the keep it just in case mentality so I never really sell that much gear anyways!!!

Once a long time ago.

I just buy new rigs once in a while, and keep most of the old stuff.

Marshall rig, Rhodes rig, Recto rig, MKIIC rig, Dr Z rig. Took a little time.

But moods change and no sense selling off a perfectly good rig over it.

I Like the way you think!

I never have sold and entire rig at once. It has been more of a revolving door. Something out.....something in.

I'll be replacing my head and 4x12 with a HD500 and L3m FRFR speaker here soon.
No band and I don't need any more hearing damage from a tube amp.

Tube amps don't HAVE to be played loud at home.

And at gigs........Plugs?

Yep.

I've been met with the "notion" of selling off my gear - practically all of it - as I have concerns of its safety, condition and the like considering I'm on the verge of exiting the country for a year. So I've been thinking "wouldn't it be easier to just sell it and not worry about storage and all that nonsense??". But then my faculties come back to me, and I think "well shit, I've got to store my entire house so why not just store the gear too?!?!?" and the biggest punctuation mark comes with the fact - HEY!!! IT'S TAKEN ME TIME TO GET THIS STUFF!!! I BOUGHT IT ALL NEW, AND IT AIN'T GONNA SELL FOR NEW PRICING!!! Why sell it only to more than likely re-buy it all some time down the future?? Makes no sense.

2 cents.

Reminds me of me a bit. Back in 1991, I was forced to sell 90+ percent of my gear, to fund a child custody battle (I won). It took me 15+ years to build back up to where I was, and then continue on (Finally)-- toward what I was aiming for, since way back before I could afford anything.

I suppose in a way I was fortunate, in that I knew what I wanted, and what it took to accomplish that, but just couldn't afford the gear. Unlike many who, are chasing the unknown, I was chasing a clear vision. SLOWLY made strategic purchases, aiming toward my final monument (My current setup). It took a life time. I've always stored all my stuff at my place too:

Now, it all lives at my shop.

First off, considering the high regard I hold you in Zach, I'll take that as a cool compliment.

Secondly, you won the war, not just the battle... Mega kudos.

As for gear, if it puts a shit eatin' grin on my face, there's no sense letting it go knowing it'll only take time, perseverance, and money just to get it back again. May be gone for a year, maybe longer, who knows, but at least I know I'll have my gear needs covered whenever the urge arises

Most kind. Thanks...

My son is 23 now, still lives w/ me. He's happy, healthy, working full time. Life sure goes by fast.

Most gear (to me) is just gear, but For me too, there are 'certain pieces' that I really do prefer, which tend to motivate more than others.

I've always sought my own path, so to speak, and apparently my gear reflects that-- which does seem to get some guys a bit unsettled, when I couldn't care less about their negative thoughts on my rig. I figure why would it. They don't need to pay for, program, transport, setup/tear down, any of my gear. Yet, some guys do get riled up. LOL My gear is only for ME, and MY needs/desires.

I've had all the arguments, and snotty comments from:

* The audience can't tell the difference between this vs that (Who cares, I've never bought gear EVER for the audience. I use what I like for ME.)

* Oh, you need all that to get good tone (No, I need this stuff to get the tones this stuff allows/provides, and control all the gear that it takes.)

* Tone is in the fingers (No, it isn't. Tone starts and ends in the brain. Technique is in the fingers, which DEFINITELY is a factor in coaxing tones out of gear, but if the gear doesn't have the ability to dial in a range of tones, there's no finger tone magic that'll pull it out, or put it there.)

* That's too much gear, you need roadies for all that (Too much gear for who? Not me. As if they will face needing to do ANYTHING ever-- with it. I have roadies)

* Too expensive. (As if, they had to pay for it)

* Too complicated (K.I.S.S.-- Keep it simple stupid) Too complicated for who? I understand it, no problems.

* That stuff is too heavy. (Too heavy? Everything is on casters. Too heavy for who? Not me. I have roadies, friends, and band mates)

Anyway, after having to sell off most of my gear-- I pray that I don't have to face needing to do that again.

I buy gear in categories:

Gear I buy or trade, to sell and make a profit
Gear I buy to keep and use at home, in the studio, and live

As far as amps go I have nothing that can't be replaced easily so I have no emotional attachments there. My guitars have great sentimental value to me and are no longer in production so those will never leave my side.
