šŸ‘. I’ve touched on this before, but the petroleum mafia here in the Midwest must have some clout. Gas is $3.60 and diesel is $4.70. Why the corn belt is above the national average is beyond me.

Mark my words… It will go higher, not because of conflict, but due to ā€œannual maintenanceā€ and the switch to ā€œsummer blendsā€. They use that excuse both summer and winter. It’s a racket..,
And because of the conflict.

If you guys think any tankers are going to take a chance on the Strait of Hormuz, you're dreaming. No matter what BS Trump claims about the Navy escorting them. It ain't gonna happen. Iran has so much artillery hidden in the mountains there that they could pick off ships for months.

Don't know history at all do you? It wouldn't be the first time American ships chaperoned tankers through the straits.

I’m not picking sides, but Iran doesn’t need a navy presence in the strait to create havoc. The have more than enough capability to launch strikes from offshore to disrupt traffic. Can we take them out? Sure, but it takes time. Few will be willing to risk multi-million $ shipments (and vessels) and that will drive prices higher.

Corn belt / Indiana has the most thirsty gas & diesel vehicles & equiptment in the rust belt. Just like Iowa / MO / Illinois and the midwest.
That is why we all pay thru the nose and most our gas is blended with at least 10% Ethanol which eats carburetors, injectors and rubber seals.
Very harmful to engines and the Farmers get corn subsidies from the USDA [taxpayer dollars] to grow the shit.
Corn syrup is in just about every food product.
Corn & soybean Farmers got Fucked hard by dRump.
Very little in US Ag gets made / grown / sold w/o the US taxpayer.

OK chicken little.

pLANTING SEASON FOR THOSE fARMS THAT DrUMP DIDN'T PUT OUT OF BUSINESS IS APON US.
KINDA HARD TO RUN TRACTORS WITH $10 DOLLAR A GALLON DIESEL AND MAKE MONEY.
BUT IM NO DOCTOR.

Gas $1.50 a litre. Diesel $2.00 a litre. Up about .25 cents gas and .50 cents diesel in a few days.

Ethanol is terrible! I switch between premium and regular fuels for vehicles and I will use only the lowest ethanol for any small engine. Please don't put high ethanol blends into small engines!

In Canada Trudeau banned the sale of gasoline without blended ethanol and they're up to 10% ethanol. Diesel here is up to 4% biofuel/ethanol.

The price for a barrel of Brent crude has jumped to $108.77, marking the biggest daily gain since the start of the pandemic in 2020 and on top of a 28 percent rise last week.

The surge comes as the US and Israel’s war on Iran continues, and traffic through the vital Strait of Hormuz remains at a near halt, with Iranian forces attacking ships that dare to pass through.

ā€œThe global economy remains dependent on the concentrated flow of Mideast oil and natural gas through the Strait of Hormuz,ā€ said Bruce Kasman, chief economist at JPMorgan.

ā€œThe near-term scenario is a near-term spike towards $120 bbl ."

If I had to pinch pennies I guess I would have to move to Regular Gasoline - and then come to a guitar forum to bitch about it.
I'm not putting anything less than 91 in my car or 89 in my truck. I don't think I'd worry too much about it bro. I see a lot of talking heads whining about it, most of whom I'm sure don't actually even know how to put fuel in their own cars, but I think it's a minor, temporary thing.

All these people bitching were dead silent when gas, regular gas, was over $4.00 under the black, racist jesus. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Adjacent topic rant… The archaic ā€œ3 types of fuelā€ delivery system needs to end. With computerized fuel management systems, we could easily standardize on a single octane fuel and significantly cut refining, delivery and storage costs. My understanding from back in my hot rod days when I would travel to find Sunoco Blue or ā€œracingā€ fuel, is that it is cheaper to refine premium grades. They cost more simply due to demand - and greed. We don’t need that. We also don’t need the idiotic 9/10ths of a penny bullshit on the pricing šŸ˜‰

^ Great point. Love it.

@Floyd Eye - I was being sarcastic. I've had my 2008 Suburban for this many years and 230k miles and have used nothing but premium gas and oil changes every 3k. My 1998 Tahoe was same treatment and had it for 220k miles until I traded it in for the Suburban.

My dad worked at Exxon for his entire career and I have some knowledge with this from my science background. Not that I'm an expert, but do have a little insight.
Octane is basically ignition vs performance. 87 ignites easier but doesn't offer as good of performance. 93 is harder to ignite but offers better performance. It may have made a difference putting 93 octane in cars back in the 70's & 80's as it kept the engine cleaner and running better. Now-a-days with computer controlled fuel injection instead of carburetors its more about engine design. If you have a performance sports car or similar that's designed for 93 octane then that's what you should be putting in it. Most cars on the road do just fine with 87 so anything more becomes a waste of money. That said, whatever you started putting in your vehicle you should stick with it because that's what the engine broke in with using.

One caveat of this... I'm not a car guy so y'all likely have a better understanding than me on that side of the fence. I only have my insight on the fuel side of things.

This applies to STOCK vehicles.
Heavily modded vehicles with standalone computers, or a stock computer with a tune, can run all kinds of different fuels - race gas, E85, etc.

Oil companies have made it know for a long time Gas prices are demographically set for an area, I'm sure that's unfair and probably some kind of law against it but it seems that's what they do.
