EVH 4X12 Cabinets

Those Heritage speakers are massively overpriced. Those EVH branded speakers are cheaper and even Ed makes his dough on them.
Imagine the profit for Celestion on the Heritage line.
Don't blame Celestion anyway, Sucmbacks are almost double priced, here on the other side of the soup.
 
Here is a picture of the two EVH and the 1967 Marshall 4x12. It's an EVH "style" shot I did for the studio.

How would the EVH cab compare(soundwise) to a VHT/Fryette slant 4x12 loaded with 25 watt celestion greenbacks.

They are pretty much as beamy as the old straight marshall 4x12, which is not bad at all. They are pretty much identical to them in terms of construction. My favorite Marshall to this date is the one pictured, and I'm not talking year or speaker model, but that particular one itself. It's hard to explain why, but I owned at least 9 other original basketweave cabs, and had access for 8 years to a lot of them(at the vintage shop I worked at) to do ab tests and pick the best one for myself. That's how I've ended up with that one, even knowing I use to like straight and 25w spks the best, that slant with 20w was THE one!
But back to the EVH, you won't get the same spread as the slant cabinet, which can be good or bad, depending on the application. But if you want that old school greenback sound, with a tight and clear low end and super smooth midrange, this cabinet, beamy or not, will give you in spades!!!

Never tried them side by side to give you a correct answer.
But I have not found any other greenback style speaker, Celestion or not, that I like as much as the Heritage/EVH 20w. They got them right this time! :rock:
 
So for old van halen sound (VH1-first album sound)it would be good.

It won't be good... it will be the perfect cabinet for it.

Nice setup
Did you color fade on the MM EVH or was it always that forest green color?
Also,what amp is hooked up to the Variac

The MM it's actually the Trans Black one. It does have a bit of Dark Green tone to it, but it's accentuated by the flash light from the camera.
I do use the Variac with everything. However, I do not lower the voltage to 95 or so like Eddie did. I use it to bring the wall voltage from 130/135(it's this high here where I live) to 115/120 just to keep the gear running a bit cooler.
Since Eddie is famous for using a Variac during his early days, I've decided to add it to the picture too.
 
love my evh 4x12, sounds great with my 5153 and marshall 2555.

i also tried it with my uber and mark v and it was decent, i hated it with my herbert!!
 
What's making me hesitate to purchase one(EVH 4X12 cab) is that there made in mexico.Quality is a issue with me.

Thanks. I too have a 1969 Slant Basketweave cab I use as my standard. It's got the G12H bass cones in it, and responds to 1W the same as it does 50W - smooth and perfect at any volume from any position in the room. Every other 4x12 I own (3 Stone Age, Mills, 2 other vintage Marshall straights, Matchless, Scumback) is at a studio. Of course, I am considering whether the right G12M complement to my basement '69 would be the EVH cab, just as you have done.

Does it makes any difference on which side of the border they do it? The workers are the same. :D
 
What's the quality like coming out of that factory vs cabinets made here in the USA.
 
If you want something good, you should choose gear because of the built quality, not because of the "Made in..." tag.
How come one can judge a piece of gear, if you have not yet had it in your hands to open it up to check the construction, or play it to hear it's sound?
To me, if you never had one with you, you cannot tell how good it is or not.
By the way, Ferraris aren't made in the USA either.
