I’ve had several of the other versions (original Vietnam version, 50W combo, 100 El-34). Out of all of them, I loved the Stealth 50w version. It’s a great amp!
Got one coming!

Congrats. You’re gonna dig it. For the cost it’s an excellent choice for modern channel switcher.
You most certainly can!Like a sore dick - can't beat it.

I get the impression that if you stuck an EQ in the loop of the white one and cut 500hz a tiny bit, it would sound very close to the Stealth. I haven't played the Stealth in person, but that is what it sounds like to me.Nice video.
To me, the Stealth has the benefits of a bit more clarity in the tone, and the Red Channel has less nasal honk in the mids.
However, I found that the unboosted blue of the OG 6L6 has a bit more density (not muddiness!) going on in the low mids.
Listening on quality Beyer DT990 Pro cans, FWIW.
I have the OG 6L6, Mexico version, not Vietnam. If I didn't have it already, I'd buy the Stealth now, and still do the same tube swaps.
I dunno man. Apart from that density in the low-mids, the 'timbre' of the nasal mid-honk from the 6L6 is not something to easily dial out. Sure, you can change the EQ a bit more, but the amps's character is harder to dial out.I get the impression that if you stuck an EQ in the loop of the white one and cut 500hz a tiny bit, it would sound very close to the Stealth. The timbre should be fairly similar I would think. If you look at the schematic for the 50w and look at the orginal Stealth mods, they are not that much different. They basically just took the first tube stage of the red channel and ran it into the second gain stage of the blue/green channel, and bypassed the original blue/green first gain stage. All that should really do is change the EQ going into the green/blue channel.I dunno man. Same with my Engl Savage 60; that thing is hella tight. If I stick an EQ in the loop, I can boost the lows to fatten things up, but that doesn't change the response of the amp. Only if I would severely boost the lows pre-amp, then I may muddy things up a bit.
And adding clarity and openness without neutering the tone is close to impossible, I'd say, unless you maybe use specific fine-tuned boosts, combined with a 31-band EQ and what not. Even then, getting RID of saturation of the character is a hard feat.
@bubbastain you can easily transform the red channel into having more useable gain range, by throwing in a couple of 5751 tubes in V3 and V4.
I did that with mine, and it made the 7 o' clock to 10 o' clock gain range a lot more versatile. Also, you can run it higher before hitting that 'jeez, who would want any more gain' point.
I agree. This version is the best. No contest. The 50 watt Stealth has been the absolute best iteration of all the 5150s so far. The clean channel is amazing, the red channel is brutal and has a shit ton of gain. The blue channel is tight and reminiscent of the red channel with more mids and less gain, but a very similar character. I love all 3 channels. For me, this is a huge step up from the regular 6l6 version. I always felt that amp sounded tame and missed something that made the Peaveys so great. This one brings a lot of that aggression back that I thought the regular one was missing. I owned the regular one and a Kruse modded 6l6 modded to stealth specs, supposedly. I didn't like those mods. This amp rules. I sold my last 5152 head about 3 months after getting it, and those had been the amps that I kept going back to over and over. Im running it into Celestion Redbacks. Usually use high output pickups...MCP Nukes in my Vs, Duncan Nazguls in my Duvells. I grabbed an LBX-S, too, and that thing is pretty different but also very good.

Just curious what didn’t you like about the Kruse modded amp? I have one and I think it’s fantastic. The clean channel is really really good. Red and blue are killer as you’d expect and he includes the concentric pots for separate EQ. The red (at least on mine) even has a gain reduction switch on the back for those who think the red is just too much.
Which one does buckethead play? I saw him a couple years ago and he was using them and it was some of the best tones I’ve ever heard
