I know I should be saving for a Herbert mk2 but a new guitar is calling my name... :aww:

You feel like you're betraying amp GAS for guitar GAS

Great guitar!! I have the black and yellow one and it rules. Pickup has that vintage VH tone nailed and the neck feels great. I paid $1600 for a mint one on Ebay from a guy who needed cash because his daughter was going off to college. I would love to get a white and black one next!! I see them go for about $1700-1800 on Ebay in very good condition with the red one fetching a little more because of course that is the color he is mostly known for but i love the other two way more

Basswood body, I know most people did not care for that option...

A music store I used to work at had one for a while. I liked it, but thought the price was an absolute ripoff. I would buy one if they went for 500-600 dollars. I felt it was just a better than average guitar. It was a black and white model. I had a really tough time getting used to just one pickup.

$500-$600? LOL- Like a squier?

The Charvel EVH Art series are wonderful guitars. The pickups are smooth, the assymetrical neck is great, and they are only going to go up in value someday.

Depending on the color, you should easily be able to find one in the $1600-$1700 range. The R/W/B a little higher.

One of the best guitars out of Charvel in the past 5 years imo.

I owned 2 of them and loved them both, i wished i had them back actually.

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice guitar. But for the money you are talking you could get a used Anderson or Suhr, which I would prefer. That's about what I paid for my Hollow Drop Top.

I mention the 500-600 price range, because that's what I could get a San Dimas or So-Cal for around here. A local shop is blowing that stuff out for $477 right now. I could get one of those and do the Frankenstein paint job myself if I was so inclined. And I would get a neck pickup.

Now if you are interested just because you are an EVH fan, then I understand that. If I was rich, I would have no problem paying the amount that those guitars regularly go for. If I were filthy rich, I would also buy the Frankenstein relic, the Black Dog Ibanez Satriani model, the Universe multi-color re-issue, and a Satriani Chromeboy. All of those guitars are insanely over-priced as well.

To sum up, I think one could do better for much less money. But do what you like.

.

You are mixing apples and oranges--i.e, Production model pricing with Custom Shop pricing. No comparison between these two based on my experience.

JackTripper tell me where i can get a So-Cal or Dimas Production model (USA or Japan) for $477 and i will call them up and buy a couple right now.

If you think the price difference is warranted, then that's cool. I guess it just wasn't my thing.

BYTOR-
I know that American Music in Fremont (NOT Bellevue) at least has a Gold and a Black San Dimas (the Tele style) left. I was in there yesterday, but didn't notice specifically what they had left. They had a handful of various models for a few years.

If you call, ask for Jeff. Their number is 206-633-1774

nothing wrong with Basswood bodies IMO...
I like basswood bodies, the evh charvels i owned was some of the best guitars i owned, i had a demartini bloody skull and it had alder and i liked the evh better. I also played some of the san dimas stuff and noticed some of the bodies was 4 piece. I never played a san dimas charvel that i liked as much as the evh model.

The evh bodies are 2 piece and the necks feel really nice, im also a fan of the pickup in this guitar and i called sd 3 years ago to buy a couple xtras and at that time they wouldnt sell them and said its similar to a custom 5, i bought a custom 5 but still liked the evh pu better. I know they have a special evh pu that came out a few years ago but im not sure if its the same as the pu in these charvels.

Just bought the gold one from the place in Seattle for $477!! Stoked! It will be here on Friday!!

Congratulations! Hope you like it!

I played that one for a bit a few months back. It's a great guitar, you will just need to change the strings and adjust the action to your tastes. I would have jumped on it if that guitar had a contour for the right arm.

I do not like the neck profile on the EVH, tad too chunky for me but they are well built guitars.

About basswood, both Suhr and one of the founding fathers of the superstrat Anderson like basswood.

I had a black/yellow one that i moved on... Great guitar. The prices seem to vary a lot over here (in europe) but I guess in or around 1300-1500 is about right?
Was strapped for cash so it had to go but someday i'll pick up another one (cool neck btw)

I remember my local GC blowing them out for $999. I just never cared for the striped paint (I know, I know).

$999 for Charvel art series??

You could have made $600 a pop without trying.

Anybody know where i can find a yellow and black or the red evh.
Or does anybody On Rt have one they wanna sell.

I had a B&W one about a year. Basswood body was a bit on the heavy side. Great playing and sounding guitar. An Anderson or Suhr (both of which I've owned multiples of) DO NOT sound like a Charvel.
