EVH5150 III 50w Blue channel really is amazing!

The red is cool and all but I find it a bit scooped for some stuff. The Blue channel on the other hand is just amazing. What a tone!
 
I mostly use the red ch but i agree the blue ch is great.
 
Blue channel on the evh mini is 50 watts of pure sex.
 
They had to have been trying to make it Marshally, right? It's a big fat hot-rodded Marshall tone with 6L6s...
 
To my ears, it sounds like a hybrid of a Marshall, a Soldano SLO, and a Bogner all wrapped into one.

Yeah, That channel surprised me because it sounds like a marshall that is running El- 34's
I think they did a killer job with the 5150 III.
 
it really amazing how close they get with 6l6s .Ed really does have some great ears..

I read in an interview Ed kinda likes a scooped mid ,He does not care for mid honk and to much cut that sounds like the amp is throwing razor blades at ya
 
I've been using the Blue as pretty much just a 'crunch' since I got it, gain on about 3, to keep the cleans cleaner too. Think I'll use it as my main high gain and lead sound over the next few weeks and see how I get on. I've put a volume pedal on the M13 with the level docked a bit infront of my clean/green channel and it knocks the input down enough to keep it clean really even with the Blue gain on 7 or 8. Definitely gonna try this live!

And I hear you about Ed liking the scoop. Ch3 is definitely more scooped than ch2. I normally run the mids on the Red on 8 to get the same kinda cut as the Blue but I think I might only use the Red for super high gain for the next few weeks. The Blue is incredibly addictive to play.
 
I use the red for rhythms and blue for leads, 100 watt version. Works out quite nicely for the music I play. Wish the clean was a bit cleaner, but whatever.

Ive never read that article but if Ed is talking about scooped mids It's more then likely setting on his amps. I actually hear a lot of mids in his main tone probably because his speaker cabs throw out a ton of mids and probably whatever he is using in front of the amp add mids as well. To be honest with you the last few time Ive heard him Live, his tone sounded like he had a cracked wah on it, so Id gather that even though he prefers the mid scoop on the amp(as in pics Ive seen), I'm definitely hearing a ton of mids in his sound. :rock:
 
According to those observing Ed close on this tour, he is on blue for all rhythm, red for solos.
 
I use the blue channel for everything. It gets good metal sounds without being boosted, maybe a tad under-gained, but that's workable with the right pickups. When boosted, it's so much bigger sounding than the red channel. I do use the red sometimes though, when I need ridiculous gain or something, or too lazy to plug in a boost.
 
If they could resolve the green/blue issue and make channel 3 another blue channel, it would be my perfect amp.

I agree with you. I understand that this is Ed's baby and he wanted it his way, but I would love the Red CH to be Blue with tons more available gain.

I like it as it is just fine. I usually end up having the Red Ch gain set to about 10am, the bass also at 10am, mids and treb and 2pm, and presence at 12:30pm. This makes the red able to be boosted with my Luther pedal and not mush out.
 
Can anyone comment on how much gain the blue channel has compared to say the blue channel of the Bogner 101b?

I've owned a 101B, it was a couple years ago. I now own the 100watter 5150 III. The Blue Channel on the 100 watt 5150 III feels like it has a slightly bit more gain than the 101B Blue channel even when the 101B boost is engaged. They are fairly close.

The Blue on the 50watt 5150 III, I've been told, has more gain than the 100watt Blue channel.
 
^ supposedly the 50w has a bit more gain on the blue channel, but i havent played a 100w so idk

if this amp was ONLY the blue channel id still have bought it. it's one of those amps that is simply a pleasure to hear roar. you strike a chord, not even a riff, and just listen and smile. I'm a metalhead and the blue ch has enough gain for me if that says anything, heh.

One of the thing that strikes me about it is that it's incredibly easy to play, even super loud and with no effects, and I'm the guy that HATE to play dry.
