So the EVH 5150 III 50 watt has more gain on the blue than the 100 watt EVH 5150 III blue channel

From memory I'd say yes, quite a bit even. I remember having to boost the shit out of the 100w, but would barely run the 50w above 12:00.

Maybe I got some bunk tubes, but the Blue channel is my least favorite on my 5153. I just find that the Red Channel has more punch.

me too... that's why i asked what people's settings are for this channel.

i just ordered some power tubes to see if that helps, but i'm just not a fan so far

What power tubes are you going with?

 I am glad there are so many positive comments on the 5153 amps. I really like the one I have(100 watt version). I used to play through Mesa Boogie and the guys in my band think I was crazy for selling all of my Mesa gear to get the 5153. As far as the blue channel, I don't use it that much, the songs I do use it on fit it perfectly. The gain is just right for my taste.

The blue channel IMO has more pop, is tighter, is less forgiving, and stands out in a mix better. It breaks chords down to individual notes better. Perfect for rhythm playing. Boosting ch2 comes into play when you want to retain these qualities but need more gain and sustain. Boosting ch2 does not make it into another ch3. I tried many but the amp played the best to me with a Maxon OD. I have an early 100w with the EH/Sovtek mix of tubes. I like it better than the JJ's that came standard later in production.

To my ears, it sounds like a hybrid of a Marshall, a Soldano SLO, and a Bogner all wrapped into one.

My thoughts exactly!

actually, i suck with my gear!!! i realized that i was driving the efx loop too hard with my Line 6 Pod XT Live(also used for midi switching). I just turned down the level output some and it cleaned the signal up greatly!!!

i ordered some sovtek 6l6's because i read some nice reviews about them, but i just cancelled the order.

i think i'm fine for now.

To me channel 2 sounds like a Marshall with more bottom end....channel 3 sounds like a Marshall with an Eq pushing it

for the 100w owners that would like the sound of the 50w blue channel :

Open the chassis, find R25 and R26
Just cut one leg of R26.Then put a 220k resistance over R25...That's all !

Try it!

It is so marshally sounding that I actually went a fair amount of time with the assumption that it had EL34 tubes in it.

Can't wait to play the 50 but def love the 100. That amp is great for tight chugga drop tuned riffage.

Curious where you got that info?

just comparison of the 2 schems !

you can add even more gain if you want with a 1uf cap over R86 (in 50w) or R37 (in 100W)

Any idea why they would make that change unless Eddie wanted it?

i suppose they listen at the custumers of the 100w that thought the ch2 was missing some gain and correct the ch2 gain to answer them in the 50w version

I am having an issue with Blue/Channel 2. My Gibson with a Burstbucker in the Bridge and my Strat with a Duncan Custom in the Bridge seems to fart out on the low strings with the gain at noon.

The red channel does not do that at all. I've now graviated to the red channel because of this. I have read that the amp is very pickup sensitive, so maybe I need different pickups, OR, I have to run the gain lower and boost the blue channel to keep the low end strings from farting out.

Anyone else experience this?

all I know is that BLIX has some incredible clips and playing! That guy smokes.

Same here. I prefer the red channel on mine for this very reason. Doesn't matter what pickups I'm running. I use Suhr Aldrich, Duncan 59 and Custom 5, Dimarzio SD, Anderson H2+ and the low end starts flubbing on the blue just before noon on the gain. The more I mess with the amp, the more I find I like the way it sounds and responds with lower output pickups.

My blue sounds a little thin and harsh to be honest. Nowhere near the hotrodded JCM 800 tone you guys are talking about. No biggie, I'm going to mess with different tubes (not a fan of JJs and their mid-honk) and for me at lest, the red channel more than makes up for anything else the amp lacks (which isn't a lot).
