EVH5150 III 50w Blue channel really is amazing!

The 5153 is just an amazing amp. EVH and fender knocked it out of the park.

I have the 100 watter and the 50 watter. The blue channel on the 50 watt does have more gain than the blue channel on the 100 watt.

Exactly what I suspected, and IMO, EVH's current 100 watt amps have those changes in his live rig.. :)

Is it very noticeable if you play them side by side .
is it like the 100 blue on 9 would be similar to 6-7 on the 50

How hot can the 50 blue get .Zakk no rest for the wicked ,Dokken Back for attack levels????

Sounds killer mang! You've nailed the tone and technique.

Thank you!
For all those tones ED was using his good old Marshall, and if you A/B my clips, they fall short, but man, the EVH 5150 III 50w have some brown in it. :)

Sounds killer! School me on the whole Steinberger thing. What model do you have? I'd buy one just to jam Summer Nights! lol

Thank you. It's just a Steinberger Spirit, a $300 gitar. :) I put in a set of EMG's, 85 in bridge, 81 in neck, just as Ed had is his back in the days. To be honest it's one of the easiest playing guitars I've ever owned, love it.

Yep the blue channel is killer but I find the red channel to be just as good in its own way.

Yeah but don't you need that "trans trem" or whatever it's called that comes with some Steinbergers to play Summer Nights?

To play it exactly like the original, you need the tran-trem indeed, but as you hear, no problem faking it on a non-trans-trem guitar. :)

How's the red channel on the 100w compare? I've been curious since I've not played the 100w yet. Is there a noticeable difference between them like there seems to be on the blue?

The red channel on the 50watt sounds exactly like the red channel on the 100 watt. I absolutely love the the blue channel with the gain dimed. Just killer tone. But for my needs a live on the red channel for my main rhythms and leads. I keep channel 1 clean and the blue channel I keep the gain around 10 o'clock but hit the front of the amp with a Nova Drive in a loop on my G-System. Just fits my needs better for what I do in my bands. But when it's just me jammin it's blue channel cranked. Lol!

I also own both (50 and 100watter). I would agree with the previous posts, ch2 has more gain on the 50w than the 100w. Both channel 3's are extremely similar. I also feel ch1 is a bit cleaner on the 50w.

My main sound (and my favorite tone from either amp) is the blue channel on the 100w with the gain around noon with a boost. I like the tightness and sustain I get with the boost versus just maxing the gain on the amp.

Does the amp react well to different boosts? i.e. do the boosts sound starkly different from each other? I've noticed some amplifiers sound the same no matter what's in front, but I sold my other overdrives to simply awhile back.

To be honest, most boost sound similar in front of the EVH to my ears. However, I can get quite a different tone with the BB since it has more EQ/gain control.

I use my GMD Luther drive to boost my blue and red channels. I set the gain to 0, level to 3/4, and tone to 1/2 and it really sounds great!

Reopening an old thread.

What are your settings for the blue channel?
