I've never played Peavey 5150 cabinet with Sheffields. Is there a Celestion speaker the Sheffield can be compared to?5150 cabinets with Sheffield's? I didn't even think Eddie used those.

Balance had the best time for sure.Balance has fantastic tone,
I am nothing but a worthless troll
According to an interview with Dave Friedman he delivered 4x12 cabinets( when Dave worked for Andy Brauer's) with G12T75's and G1265's to 5150 studios when Ed was using the SLO and Dave says Ed preferred those speakers with the SLO.
Amsterdam is so fun to play![]()
For those albums I believe the delays are always on.Is Ed using Dual Delays on rhythm or just solos?
I gigged with a Dual Rec through an MS4x12 with Sheffields in the 90s. Sounded pretty good. Could get a little honky in the mids, but it was workable.I 100% agree. Sheffields can sound fantastic. People just look for excuses to spend more money than they have to.
Did you have both 30 and 100 versions? How would you compare them? The SLO is a WAY better amp to me. Most of what you're hearing at the beginning of Judgement Day is the SLO. They may have blended a 5150 prototype back in at lower levels, but the 5150 doesn't sound like that. It doesn't have that "wangy" overtone. The high-mids and highs aren't as clear.
The Depth Mod... I never used that, and both of my SLOs had it. If it acts the same way on the 30 as it does the 100, it won't sound the same. The Depth Mod fattens up EVERYTHING. I only found it usedful if I had the Lead channel gain below 10:00. Other than that, MEH!
I like the original 5150 block letter and script versions. Neither one is anywhere near an SLO to me.
Of course, these are just my opinions. There are lots of people here that feel the oppositie way about it. No one is wrong.
If you go SLO over the 5150 you may want to check out the Mezzabarba Mzero amp. If has a little tighter low end and sharper attack but still SLO DNA.

He's( Dan Leal) using an eventide micropitch and the SDE3000 EVH delay and greenback EVH cabs. I don't know what he's using for the two wet cabs power amp but pick an amp you like.Ouch - this is really good
I have the SDE3000 EVH and the H90. I have been running the UA Anti Pedal but looking for a real amp. Haven't decided on the speakers, I have a mesa boogie Mark V around that is going to fund whatever I am going to buyHe's( Dan Leal) using an eventide micropitch and the SDE3000 EVH delay and greenback EVH cabs. I hear great things about the new Avantone S/S Mosfet power amps built like the older mosfet in the 80's,90's and 2000's. The old Crown stereo power amps are damn good as well, built like tanks and pretty reasonable.
The W/D/W VH is a really fun setup to play. I'm still running my Eventide Pitchfactor and Boss D500 with the SDE 3000 algorithms in my setup, love it.
