Facelift, Dirt = Best opening 2 albums ever?

I'd say it's Blizzard Of Ozz/Diary Of A Madman.

So far we have VH1 and VH2.

We have Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman.

We have Led Zeppelin 1 and Led Zeppelin 2.

We have Are You Experienced and Axis Bold as Love.

So Facelift and Dirt, while being great albums don't even come close. Not in my opinion.

AIC is probably what really got me serious about playing guitar.
Bleed the Freak is fucking killer!

All those other albums are very good, ground breaking for their time but still dated in their sound unlike the AIC albums.

That's weird, I think Alice in Chains first two albums sound exactly like the early 90's which was twenty years ago and do sound dated to me. They're just 20 years dated instead of 30 or 40 years dated. And the title of this thread said "Best opening two albums EVER?"

And the Van Halen albums are timeless sounding. The only ones mentioned by anyone in this thread that are timeless.

Most of the young kids these days want to learn to play AIC songs and they all know who Layne is. Same goes for Metallica but Led Zeppelin and VH the kids dont really care about to the extent they love AIC and Metallica

Ask a kid under 20 if he knows what a Robert Plant or Michael Anthony is, chances are he wont know.

The sound from the early Metallica and AIC records is still very relevant to this day, they will never go away but at the same time those albums would have never happened without Hendrix, VH, Zeppelin. Metallica of course the sound from there first records is dated but AIC has held up much better due to the fact the songs are still relevant and get frequent airplay in the media all the time.

Well this is an interesting perspective considering I own a guitar shop and listen to kids play guitar all day long, every single day. ;) I also have lesson rooms where I hear kids taking lessons. It's interesting that you throw Metallica into this argument because I would have to agree with you completely about their influence on kids. But sneaking AIC in on Metallica's coatsleeves as that influential of a band? I hear kids playing and learning Metallica songs all the time. I NEVER hear kids playing or learning AIC tunes, ever. I hear Zep, Hendrix, Van Halen and Ozzy on a daily basis from kids and that's because all of those bands wrote multiple tunes that have become part of the fabric of American culture.

Now maybe you teach guitar and you love AIC and in turn your students pick up on that and get into them too. But that's a skewed perspective. And your ask a kid who Michael Anthony thing is funny too. Ask a kid who any of the guitarists in the bands I mentioned are and who Jerry Cantrell or better yet Mike Starr is and I guarantee they're going to know the guitarists in the bands i mentioned at an extremely higher ratio.

Now the Metallica thing is a different story and I agree with you there.

All great albums

VH1 and VH2.

Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman.

Led Zeppelin 1 and Led Zeppelin 2.

Facelift and Dirt

Well we can agree to disagree on the AIC part of my argument.

I noticed AIC got big with the kids again because of Rock Band or Guitar Hero and Celebrity Rehab  but it seems like they all know who Jerry Cantrell is, Mike Starr or Sean Kinney not so much  . A few years ago AIC was almost forgotten, I think its up to the band to have good PR and marketing to make sure they stay relevant as well.

best albums argument is purely subjective sorry guy ;)
And I am under 20 (19) and I know about led zeppelin and van halen... obviously

I stick with my previous statement, still 2 of the best opening albums ever.
If it was RTL and MOP, that WOULD be it. No question.
Imo.

VH 1 and 2 have my vote as well! those two albums are thunder and lightning.

Definitley Maybe and Whats the Story Morning Glory?

Those two AIC albums are all time classics!!!!
