you forgot about janes first album, ;)

Ever, is a big word. They are both incredible. Facelift came out when I was a freshman, was absolutely hugely popular in high school. I saw AIC in '93 and that show pretty much changed my life.

That's weird, I think Alice in Chains first two albums sound exactly like the early 90's which was twenty years ago and do sound dated to me.
Stop reminding us how old we (most of us) are... I remember thinking of 1999 as The Future.

I love AIC i grew up on that. A great influence for me to play guitar

How about MSG 1 & 2? Or the first couple Sabbath records? Or Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and Rising?

When Dirt first came out, I literally had the tape (yes tape) in my car playing over and over for at least 9 months straight without changing it.
One of the best albums of all time IMHO

We break out Love, Hate, Love every now and then a practice. The Facelift album changed the way I think about guitar.

I dont really count XXX as a studio album. More of an EP.
I guess that pretty much screws up my Minor Threat submission though. :dunno:

Love those 2 AIC albums

I am going to let you old guys in on a secret...

Most of us under 35 years of age don't care that VH is releasing a new album.
:D

Absolutely ridiculous to have threads like this.

VH literally changed the face of modern (last 100 years) music. As did Hendrix, Elvis, The Beatles, and some guy who wrote Big Band music in the '20s or '30s.

AIC is one of the principle bands in a shift of styles in popular "guitar" music.

Why try and compare? They both are great.

People that work for me "under 35" tend to listen to Sabbath, The Doors, and Skynard, more than any hair or grunge band. Or they simply hate rock and hip hop along.

Music is not about age, but memories tied to it.

My dad insist that Johnny Unitas is the greatest quarterback who ever played. What is the point of me trying to tell him Aikman, Bradshaw, Brady, Montana or Manning might be better?

I would imagine VH could give a rats ass if some under 35 guy who is still sucking on his mothers teet on guitar compared to where he has walked among the Gods of Guitar is awaiting his next album. (or MP3 for the younger guys)

Just saying, :D

NOT to boast drug abuse but I'd guess some 20 years ago, maybe 18 years ago,it's fuzzy now but when they're first album came out I bashed with them. Then a year or so later they were on tour with Extreme,I think and we did it again, but besides that they have been my all time favorite band, behind Metallica,I have 2 AIC CDs in my car changer all the time.
They're chemistry was perfect IMO like Tool, flawless music if there is such a thing.

Hmmmm.....
Just off the top of my head:

On Through The Night
High 'n' Dry

Rush
Fly By Night

Aerosmith
Get You Wings

Please Please Me
With The Beatles

....Along with VH and others previously mentioned here.

Not to knock the OP, but I think there's significant argument against your point, and I also think that rock history will not hold AIC discography to much more than a footnote.

I agree that Facelift was the best debut album ever by any band IMO. But Sap was released next (technically an EP, but still)
Dirt was their third album, and it was amazing as well.

HOWEVER, Jar of Flies is their true masterpiece, and IMO is the best album of all time.

Honorable mention:

Megadeth- Killing.., Peace Sells
Tool-Undertow, Aenima
Pearl Jam-Ten, VS.
VHI & II
Alter Bridge-One Day Remains, Blackbird
A Perfect Circle-Mer De Noms, Thirteenth Step
Led Zep I & II
Queensryche-self titled EP, Warning
STP-Core, Purple
GNR-afd, Illusions
Deftones-Adrenaline, Around the Fur
KSE-Killswitch Engage, Alive or Just Breathing
Soundgarden-UltramegaOK, Louder than Love

I want to say Piper by Floyd, but I don't care for their early stuff nearly as much as DG's era.

And Isaac is like 16 years old so there is SOME hope for the future.

I gottta go with Black Sabbath and Paranoid. Literally created real Heavy Metal as we know it.
For the rocker in me it's Rose Tattoo S/T and Assault and Battery.
I wish AC/DC hadn't released High Voltage first because TNT and Dirty Deeds (Australian versions) would be it.
KEA and RTL are also tops.
Melissa and Don't Break The Oath.

AIC is great but not a game changer in music IMO. But, opinions, assholes, fill in the rest.

Some may hate them but Nirvana, absolutely. If there was no Nirvana, lots of shred metal bands would not be unemployed.

Metallica, undeniable.
