Doubt if it makes anybody that lost equipment or money from the fall of Fat Sound feel any better ... but just so you know ... Stu is very broke and his life is in shambles ... he didn't just take the money and run ... and he has lost a lot more than just his reputation and his store ..

Are we supposed to feel bad for him?

The guy didn't even return consignment items to their rightful owners when the bank chained the doors? That's bullshit. Those consignment items could not have been sold and the proceeds used to pay off any creditors, as they were not the legal property of Fat Sound or Stu. Bullshit.

He was charged with felony conversion, which my attorney wife means selling something that was not yours, more or less (the consigned merchandise I presume).

He's in court this week, he has a couple charges against him.

I'd gotten to know him pretty well over the last 7 years.... all this stuff is pretty tough to take. You could see the signs, but I never thought it would get as bad as it did.

As for the 2 Mikes running it into the ground, total BS.

I got friendly with him when I first moved here. We were planning on getting together with our kids. Pretty heartbreaking. I hope his kids are ok. As for the shop I brought a number of gtrs in to be repaired and the workmanship sucked. Majorly. Complete hack s@@t. Coming from LA where the finest guitar repairman reside it was a major wake up. Luckily I have since found a decent guy out here.

Thats surprising James...Mark Kane is a Martin and Taylor factory authorized warranty repair luther. He received certs do do warranty work from both company's. You may have caught him during the Stu Carter Meltdown...as it was all going on right when you got here...only explanation that really makes any sense. He ALWAYS had a 3 week waiting list for work and a boatload of guitars in for repair or for setups...in the 10 years I have known him I have never heard of bad workmanship....sometimes his setups were not as I preferred, but it was a simple thing to say something and he would get it the way I wanted...setups are such a personal thing..LOLOL

ANd I agree...Rob seemed like a great guy the day I met him also!! The little green resonator he built and brought to the party was cool..LOL.

The 2 Mikes...Mike Gallo is now manager of one of the local Total Wine stores...Mike Ayers I am not sure where he landed but he was doing everything he could to help customers who had gotten totally shafted out of their deposits and trying to get people who had stuff on consignment their stuff back...even though he had already quit and was no longer associated with the shop or stu.

As far as Stu...TOTAL MELTDOWN...feel really bad for him and his entire family....Fatsound is now an Antique Shop, the big sign is still above where the store used to be, but its now an Antique Shop...assume the landlord doesnt want to bear the cost of removing the sign and having to repaint the outside, since that sign has been there almost 2 decades......

Is just crazy for it to be gone...I went to the shop basically the entire time I played guitar...first shop I ever talked to anyone about guitars in, first purchase of strings, picks, etc...(got my first guitar via ebay...LOL) but sucks that its gone...I never even drive to that side of town anymore when 3 years ago I would head that way at least once a week just to see what was new.

From what I hear, most of Mark Kane's customers went with him when he left.

I always had the guys at Guru guitars do my setups, because Mark was always way overbooked. They do nice work (I'm fairly anal about my setups too) and usually have alot less wait time.
