One of my favorites is the "Front Page" CD with Dennis Chambers, Bireli Lagrene, and Dominique Di Piazza.
I also like -
"Made in Australia" by Gambale, Donati, and Fierabracci
"Live" by El Grupo (Luke, Joey Heredia, Steve Weingart, and Oskar Cartaya)
"Clinophobia" by Devil's Slingshot(Macalpine, Sheehan, and Donati)

I don't know if you can call this fusion, but I like it -
"The Machinations of Dementia" by Blotted Science

FWIW, my favorite is Ascend. I love his cover of La Villa Strangiato.

Introspection and Uncertain Terms are 2 of my favs, but you may also want to check out Bill Conners and Bozzio, Levin, Stevens

ASCEND! One cd I never stop listening to..wait until you hear the fucking keyboard and piano on that. The most impressive thing is the keys on that album. Vitalij Kupriik or something like that is the keyboard player's name. Exellent work!

Amazing solo at 1:59.
Only if you listen to it in an elevator...
:)

This is what I view as Fusion...

Man Ray has a lot of movement with his right hand, I have no clue how he can be so accurate with his alt picking. Shane's hand is pretty effiencent while Ray is just flailing away.

Guess it just shows ya there is no one way to pick.

In reality there is also a lot more hammer-on/pull-off stuff interspersed in Shawn's picking, wheras Ray drills it.
But yeah, there isn't one "right" way look at Benson and then Paul Gilbert.
