The SED I am refferring to are the Svetlana Winged C St Petersburg. The New Senser SED's I do not like. JJ's are better than those.

Winged =C= is SED. They are made in the formerly named "Svetlana" factory in St. Petersburg. New Sensor aquired the name Svetlana in some legal mess, and now produce the tubes in the Sovtek factory, and label them "Svetlana".

So, in reality, when you buy an SED =C=, you get the real deal Svetlana. Make sense?

1) Winged C SED
2) Sovtek 6L6WXT+ (not wxt)
3) Shuguang 6L6GCR - actually a nice sounding long lasting reasonable priced tube when you can find it

I can second the Shuaguang ( Chinese). They sounded really good in my Kustom Defender. I do believe Ruby 6L6GCMSTR tubes are these and also the Peavey branded 6L6's. They have a nice glassy top on the cleans. I really like the JJ's that came in my Traynor, too.

Are those Shuguang's made in a 'coke' envelope? If so I've seen them for cheap but I was worried about the socket spacing in my speedtwin. They are preeeety close together.

They be Shuguang EL34-B's

I've used Winged C's in Engls and I currently have them in my old Single Rec (Watford Valves do them rated for Mesa's) and nothing works better for me.

I personally don't get on with the JJ's but I think a lot of it comes down to how you play as well as what sound you're after.

solvtek 6L6WXT+ and the Jan's mentioned are my fav's.

Yeah, the Sovtek 5881WXTs are also VERY underrated. I've been using in 'em in ALL of my 6L6 powered amps (which is a lot, guys,  ) and I've never had a tube go bad on me in the past three years. Only time I ever change tubes is when I feel like it's been a while ;)

They make them in the regular bottle, too. Apparently Groove Tubes and Mesa rebrands these as well as Ruby and Peavey.

They are very rugged. I like the WXT+ personally. I preferred them to the Ruby, SED, TAD wgcstr and JJ in my FJA 5150.

My limited budget and availability in the UK is probably going to sway me towards JJ. I can only find the sino's in coke envelopes and I really doubt they'll fit.

Ive had the same set of winged C for over 2 years now. regular use, and a high gain channel on 50% of the time.

SED.

Not a fan of the EH 6L6. The EH EL34 isnt bad though IMO. DOesnt touch the SED 34s though.

THe SEDs are a bit $$ so if I was on a budget, id look at the Sovtek WXT+ or the Svetlana (these 2 might be the same or simular tubes)

I dont know why people like JJ at all I have had so many failures right out of the box,

SED
Winged C
TAD
EH

all great

I've found a guy selling matched Shuguang 6L6GC (not the R revision but in the straight envelope, not coke) do you know if there is much difference?

Never had a problem with them either and always enjoyed their consistency over the years..
Longevity is good while using an Attenuator/hotplate also

They are pretty close, more like 5881 specs but still a nice tone if they are the black based versions...the best sounding I've found are the older brown based GCR models. The black base models are inexpensive and sound good with high bias settings so if you cook them to get the tone you aren't out much

Yeah they are the black base model. I'm soon going to be restoring a bassman 100 that caught fire (hopefully just the screen resistors...) and I dont want to drop expensive tubes in for them to go pop if I fuck something up. If they're any good I'll stick some in my speed twin too and I dont dig that amp with the EL34s that are in right now and it was pretty evil with 6L6EHs in.

tubes are just something i wish i knew more about, i love to hear from guys who have large collections. i feel like a kid at a camp fire when i hear them talk about them

They can be had cheap if you find them in the right place...bidding on them, that is

$55 for these:
