I think the failure to follow through on the Epstein deal was a turning point in terms of the level of trust anyone puts in the authorities, which, surprise, is at an all time low now. I guess it could be chalked up to "just another politician lying" but we are talking about more or less protecting a worldwide human sex trafficking ring and who knows what else, which had ridiculously close ties to the levers of power, by not following through.
